As Jesus, ^{▼▼Lit. he} his disciples, and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus) was sitting by the road.Matt 20:29; Luke 18:35 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Many people sternly told him to be quiet, but he started shouting even louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

49 So Jesus stopped and said, “Call him!”

So they called the blind man and told him, “Have courage! Get up. He's calling you.” 50 He threw off his coat, jumped up, and went to Jesus.

51 Then Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?”

The blind man said to him, “Rabbouni, ^{▼▼Rabbouni is Heb. for My Master and/or Teacher} I want to see again.”

52 Jesus told him, “Go. Your faith has made you well.” At once the man ^{▼▼Lit. he} could see again, and he began to follow Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. him} down the road.Matt 9:22; Mark 5:34

Nazoraios may be a word play between Heb. netser, meaning branch (see Isa 11:1), and the name} was coming by. 38 Then he shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 The people at the front of the crowd ^{▼▼Lit. at the front} sternly told him ^{▼▼Lit. him} to be quiet, but he started shouting even louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

40 Then Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he ^{▼▼Lit. he} came near, Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. he} asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?”

He ^{▼▼Lit. He} said, “Lord, I want to see again!”
