Jesus Is Mocked
27 aThen the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into bthe ▼▼I.e., the governor’s official residence
Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman ▼▼Normally 600 men (the number varied)

ecohort to Him. 28And they stripped Him and fput a red ▼▼I.e., a Roman soldier’s cloak
cloak on Him. 29 hAnd after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a ▼▼Or staff; i.e., to mimic a king’s scepter
reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “ jHail, King of the Jews!” 30And kthey spit on Him, and took the reed and beat Him on the head.
