22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for ^aa sincere brotherly love, ^blove one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 ^csince you have been born again, ^dnot of perishable seed but of imperishable, through ^ethe living and abiding word of God; 24 for

1 Peter 2:1-10

A Living Stone and a Holy People

1 ⁱSo put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2 ^jLike newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual ^kmilk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— 3 if indeed you have ^ltasted that the Lord is good.

4 As you come to him, a living stone ^mrejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 ⁿyou yourselves like living stones are being built up as ^oa spiritual house, to be ^pa holy priesthood, ^qto offer spiritual sacrifices ^racceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it stands in Scripture:

^s“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
^tand whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
7 So the honor is for you who ^ubelieve, but for those who ^vdo not believe,

^w“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,” ^{▼▼Greek the head of the corner}
8 and

^y“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”
They stumble because they disobey the word, ^zas they were destined to do.

9 But you are ^aaa chosen race, ^aba royal ^acpriesthood, ^ada holy nation, ^aea people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you ^afout of darkness into ^aghis marvelous light. 10 ^ahOnce you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
