Luke 12:4-5

4-12

Be not afraid; a very common form of hypocrisy has always been dissimulation and the denial of Christ through fear of man. Compare Joh 12:42,43. The Saviour, therefore, next warns his disciples against this sin, because, first, men can do us no real harm, while God can destroy both soul and body in hell, verse Lu 12:4,5; because, secondly, God, who watches over the sparrows, will protect his faithful servants, verses Lu 12:8,9. He then warns his disciples against the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost, a sin in which the denial of Christ might end, verse Lu 12:10; and against anxiety in respect to their defence when brought before magistrates, verses Lu 12:11,12.
