4 Jesus answered them, “See to it that no one deceives you.Eph 5:6; Col 2:8, 18; 2Thes 2:3; 1John 4:1 5 For many will come in my name and say, ‘I am the Christ,’ ^{▼▼I.e. the Messiah} and they will deceive many people.Jer 14:14; 23:24-25; Matt 5:11; 23:24; John 5:43 6 You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See to it that you are not alarmed. These things must take place, but the end hasn't come yet. 7 For nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.2Chr 15:6; Isa 19:2; Hag 2:22; Zech 14:13 8 But all these things are only the beginning of the birth pains.”

8 He said, “Be careful that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he’ and ‘The time is near.’ Don't go after them.Matt 24:4; Mark 13:5; Eph 5:6; 2Thes 2:3 9 When you hear of wars and revolutions, never be alarmed. For these things must take place first, but the end won't come right away.”

10 Then he went on to say to them, “Nation will rise up in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.Matt 24:7 11 There will be great earthquakes and famines and plagues in various places, and there will be fearful events and awful signs from heaven.

The Coming Persecution Matthew 24:9-14; Mark 13:9-13

12 “But before all these things take place, people ^{▼▼Lit. they} will arrest you and persecute you. 16 “You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death.Mic 7:6; Mark 13:12; Acts 7:59; 12:2 17 You will be hated continuously by everyone because of my name.Matt 10:22 18 And yet not a hair on your head will be lost.Matt 10:30 19 By your endurance you will win your souls.”
