      of death—Gates being the entrance is put for the bounds.

Psalms 43:1

     1. Judge—or, "vindicate" (Ps 10:18).

      plead, &c.— (Ps 35:1).

      ungodly—neither in character or condition objects of God's favor (compare Ps 4:3).

Psalms 69:18

     16-18. These earnest terms are often used, and the address to God, as indifferent or averse, is found in Ps 3:7; 22:24; 27:9, &c.
