Rehoboam.20; 11:43; 15:3,24; 22:50; 2Ch 12:16his mother's.21Abijam.Dr. Kennicott observes, that the name of this king of Judah is now expressed three ways; here and in four other places, it is Abijam; in two others (2 Ch 13:20, 21) it is Abijahu; but in eleven others it is Abijah or Abiah, as it is expressed by St. Matthew, (ch. 1:7,) [Abia;] and this is the reading of thirteen of Kennicott's and De Rossi's MSS., and of thirteen respectable editions of the Hebrew Bible. The Syriac is the same. The Septuagint in the London Polyglott has [Abiou,] Abihu; but in the Complutensian and Antwerp Polyglotts it has [Abia,] Abiah; and the Editio Princeps of the Vulgate, some MSS. and the text in these two Polyglotts, instead of Abiam, have Abia. 1Ch 3:10Abia.2Ch 12:16Abijah.Mt 1:7Abia.2 Chronicles 13

But what Abijah urged concerning the state of religion in Judah was not strictly just; and, as spoken by him, it favoured ostentation. Abijah himself was but an indifferent character; and idolatry was evidently connived at in his days. Yet it was true, that the men of Judah had the priests, ordinances, and worship of Jehovah among them; that there were numbers of pious worshippers in the land; that theirs was the more righteous cause; that Jehovah was on their side as their Captain, while Israel fought against him; and that the presence of the priests with the sacred trumpets was a token of His presence and favour. 11:16,17; Ex 19:5,6; Zec 13:9the priests.Ex 29:1-37; Nu 16:40; 18:1-7 they burn.2:4; Ex 29:38sweet incense.Ex 30:1-10; Le 2:1-3; Nu 16:6,46; Lu 1:9; Re 8:3,4shewbread.Ex 25:30; Le 24:5-9the candlestick.Ex 25:31-39; 27:20,21; Le 24:2-4we keep.Ge 26:5; Nu 9:19; Eze 44:8,15; 48:11 God.Nu 23:21; 1Sa 4:5-7; Isa 8:10; Zec 10:5; Ro 8:31for our captain.De 20:4; Jos 5:13-15; Ps 20:7; Heb 2:10his priests.Nu 10:8,9; 31:6; Jos 6:13-20fight ye.Job 15:25,26; 40:9; Isa 45:9; Jer 50:24; Ac 5:39; 9:4,5ye shall not.24:20; Nu 14:41; De 28:29; Job 9:4; Isa 54:17; Jer 2:37; Eze 17:9 an ambushment.20:22; Jos 8:4; Pr 21:30; Jer 4:22 looked back.Ex 14:10; Jos 8:20; Jud 20:33-43; 2Sa 10:8-14cried.14:11; 18:31; Ps 50:15; 91:5the priests.12 as the men.20:21; Jos 6:16,20; Jud 7:18-22; Ps 47:1,5God smote.14:12; Nu 32:4; Jos 11:8; Jud 4:15; 2Ki 5:1; Ps 118:4-7; Isa 37:36 God delivered.Ge 14:20; De 2:36; 3:3; Jos 10:12; 21:44; Jud 1:4; 11:21; 1Sa 23:7 five hundred.3,12; 28:6; Isa 10:16-19; 37:36; Na 1:5; 1Co 10:22 relied.16:8,9; 20:20; 2Ki 18:5; 1Ch 5:20; Ps 22:4,5; 146:5; Da 3:28; Na 1:7Eph 1:12 took cities.Jos 10:19,39; 11:12; 1Sa 31:7Jeshanah.Jeshanah, according to the Talmud, was not far from Sephoris.
