1 Zedekiah sends to Jeremiah to enquire the event of Nebuchadnezzar's war.3 Jeremiah foretells a hard seige and miserable captivity.8 He counsels the people to fall to the Chaldeans;11 and upbraids the King's house. A.M. cir. 3415. B.C. cir. 589. The word.This discourse was delivered about the ninth year of the reign of Zedekiah. This chapter, observes Dr. Blayney, contains the first of those prophecies which were delivered by Jeremiah subsequent to the revolt of Zedekiah, and the breaking out of the war thereupon; and which are continued on to the taking of Jerusalem, related in ch. 39, in the following order: ch. 21; 34; 32; 33; 38; 39. when.32:1-3; 37:1; 52:1-3; 2Ki 24:17,18; 1Ch 3:15; 2Ch 36:10-13Pashur.38:1; 1Ch 9:12; Ne 11:12Zephaniah.29:25; 37:3; 52:24; 2Ki 25:18-21 Enquire.37:3,7; 38:14-27; 42:4-6; Jud 20:27; 1Sa 10:22; 28:6,151Ki 14:2,3; 22:3-8; 2Ki 1:3; 3:11-14; 22:13,14; Eze 14:3-7; 20:1-3for.32:24; 39:1,2; 52:3-6; 2Ki 25:1,2according.Ex 14:1-15:27; Jos 10:1-11:23; Jud 4:1-5:31; 1Sa 7:10-12; 14:6-141Sa 17:45-50; 2Ch 14:9-13; 20:1-30; 32:21; Ps 44:1-4; 46:8-11Ps 48:4-8; 105:5-45; 136:1-26; Isa 59:1,2Jeremiah 42:2-4

In order to induce him to favour them, they applied to him with one consent, in the most respectful and plausible manner: they used language to prepossess him with a favourable opinion of them, and to move his compassion; and, in words expressing great humility, they entreated his prayers in their behalf, and that he would enquire of the Lord what he would have them to do. The prophet readily acquiesced; and doubted not but that he should receive an answer from God, which he would unreservedly declare to them; and they called the Lord to witness that they would implicitly follow his directions.
