1 Samuel 17:12-15

12Now David was a  the son of an b  Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, c  named Jesse, d  who had eight sons. In the days of Saul the man was already old and advanced in years.

13The three oldest sons of Jesse had followed Saul to the battle. And f  the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. 14 g  David was the youngest. The three eldest followed Saul, 15but David went back and forth from Saul h  to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.

1 Samuel 17:28

28Now Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.”

2 Samuel 7:8

8Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the  Lord of hosts i  I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince

over my people Israel.

1 Chronicles 17:7

7Now, therefore, thus shall you say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the  Lord of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel,

70He k  chose David his servant
and took him from the sheepfolds;
