Deuteronomy 15:7-11

7If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the  Lord your God is giving you, a  you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, 8but b  you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be. 9Take care lest there be an unworthy thought in your heart and you say, ‘The seventh year, the year of release is near,’ and your c  eye look grudgingly
Or be evil; also verse 10
on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he e  cry to the  Lord against you, and f  you be guilty of sin.
10You shall give to him freely, and g  your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because h  for this the  Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake. 11For i  there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, j  ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

Job 29:12-16

12because I k  delivered the poor who cried for help,
and the fatherless who had none to help him.
13 l  The blessing of him who was m  about to perish came upon me,
and I caused n  the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
14I o  put on righteousness, and it clothed me;
my justice was like a robe and p  a turban.
15I was q  eyes to the blind
and feet to the lame.
16I was a father to the needy,
and I searched out r  the cause of him whom I did not know.

Job 31:16-20

16 If I have s  withheld anything that the poor desired,
or have t  caused the eyes of the widow to fail,
17or have eaten my morsel alone,
and the fatherless has not eaten of it
18(for from my youth the fatherless

Proverbs 14:21

21Whoever ad  despises his neighbor is a sinner,
but ae  blessed is he who is generous to the poor.

Proverbs 19:17

17 af  Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the  Lord,
and he ag  will repay him for his ah  deed.
