Exodus 23:28-3028And a I will send hornets ▼
▼Or the hornetbefore you, which shall drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites from before you. 29 c I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild beasts multiply against you. 30Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land.
Numbers 33:52-5352then d you shall drive out e all the inhabitants of the land from before you and destroy all their f figured stones and destroy all their metal images and demolish all their high places. 53And you shall take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given the land to you to possess it.
Israel’s Disobedience1Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to g Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, h ‘I will never break my covenant with you, 2 i and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; j you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? 3So now I say k I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become l thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.”
Judges 3:1-41 m Now these are the nations that the Lord left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan. 2It was only in order that the generations of the people of Israel might know war, to teach war to those who had not known it before. 3These are the nations: n the five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as far as Lebo-hamath. 4They were for o the testing of Israel, to know whether Israel would obey the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
