14she took off her widow’s garments a  and covered herself with a veil, wrapping herself up, and sat at the entrance to b  Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. For she saw that Shelah was grown up, c  and she had not been given to him in marriage. 15When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face.

2 Kings 9:22

22And when Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” He answered, “What peace can there be, so long as d  the whorings and the sorceries of your mother Jezebel are so many?”

Isaiah 3:16-24

16 The  Lord said:
f  Because g  the daughters of Zion are haughty

18In that day the Lord will take away k  the finery of the anklets, the l  headbands, and the m  crescents; 19the pendants, the bracelets, and the scarves; 20the n  headdresses, the armlets, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets; 21the signet rings and o  nose rings; 22the p  festal robes, the mantles, the cloaks, and the handbags; 23the mirrors, the linen garments, the turbans, and the veils.

24 Instead of q  perfume there will be rottenness;
and instead of a r  belt, a rope;
and instead of s  well-set hair, t  baldness;
and instead of a rich robe, a u  skirt of sackcloth;
and v  branding instead of beauty.

Isaiah 23:16

16 Take a harp;
go about the city,
O forgotten prostitute!
Make sweet melody;
sing many songs,
that you may be remembered.”

Jeremiah 4:30

30And you, O desolate one,
what do you mean that you dress in scarlet,
w  that you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold,
x  that you enlarge your eyes with paint?
In vain you beautify yourself.
y  Your lovers despise you;
they seek your life.

1 Timothy 2:9

9likewise also z  that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire,
