Hosea 5:3-14

3 a  I know Ephraim,
and Israel is not hidden from me;
for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore;
Israel is defiled.
4 b  Their deeds do not permit them
to return to their God.
For c  the spirit of whoredom is within them,
and they know not the  Lord.
5 d  The pride of Israel testifies to his face;
Or in his presence

Israel and f  Ephraim shall stumble in his guilt;
g  Judah also shall stumble with them.
6 h  With their flocks and herds they shall go
to seek the  Lord,
i  but they will not find him;
j  he has withdrawn from them.
7 k  They have dealt faithlessly with the  Lord;
for they have borne alien children.
Now the new moon shall devour them with their fields.
8 l  Blow the horn in m  Gibeah,
the trumpet in n  Ramah.
Sound the alarm at o  Beth-aven;
we follow you,
Or after you
O Benjamin!
9Ephraim shall become a desolation
in the day of punishment;
among the tribes of Israel
I make known what is sure.
10The princes of Judah have become
like q  those who move the landmark;
upon them I will pour out
my wrath like water.
11Ephraim is r  oppressed, crushed in judgment,
because he was determined to go after filth.
Or  to follow human precepts

12But I am t  like a moth to Ephraim,
and u  like dry rot to the house of Judah.
13 When Ephraim saw his sickness,
and Judah v  his wound,
then Ephraim went w  to Assyria,
and sent to the great king.
Or  to King Jareb

y  But he is not able to cure you
or heal z  your wound.
14For I will be aa  like a lion to ab  Ephraim,
and like a young lion to the house of ac  Judah.
ad  I, even I, will tear and go away;
I will carry off, and no one shall rescue.

Hosea 11:3-12

3 Yet it was ae  I who taught Ephraim to walk;
I took them up by their arms,
but they did not know that af  I healed them.
4 ag  I led them with cords of kindness
Or humaneness; Hebrew man

with the bands of love,
and ai  I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws,
and aj  I bent down to them and fed them.
5 ak  They shall not
Or surely
return to the land of Egypt,
but am  Assyria shall be their king,
an  because ao  they have refused to return to me.
6 ap  The sword shall rage against their cities,
consume the bars of their gates,
and devour them aq  because of their own counsels.
7My people are bent ar  on turning away from me,
and though as  they call out to the Most High,
he shall not raise them up at all.
8 How can I give you up, O Ephraim?
How can I hand you over, O Israel?
at  How can I make you au  like Admah?
How can I treat you av  like Zeboiim?
aw  My heart recoils within me;
my compassion grows warm and tender.
9I will not execute my burning anger;
I will not again destroy Ephraim;
ax  for I am God and not a man,
ay  the Holy One in your midst,
and I will not come in wrath.
Or into the city

10 ba  They shall go after the  Lord;
bb  he will roar like a lion;
when he roars,
his children shall come trembling bc  from the west;
11they shall come trembling like birds bd  from Egypt,
and be  like doves bf  from the land of Assyria,
and I will return them to their homes, declares the  Lord.
Ch 12:1 in Hebrew
Ephraim bh  has surrounded me with lies,
and the house of Israel with deceit,
but Judah still walks with God
and is faithful to the Holy One.
