Judges 2:4

4As soon as the angel of the  Lord spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept.

Jeremiah 3:13

13 a  Only acknowledge your guilt,
that you rebelled against the  Lord your God
and scattered your favors among foreigners under b  every green tree,
and that you have not obeyed my voice,

declares the  Lord.

Jeremiah 3:22-25

22 c  Return, O faithless sons;
d  I will heal your faithlessness.”
Behold, we come to you,
for you are the  Lord our God.
23Truly e  the hills are a delusion,
the orgies
Hebrew commotion
on the mountains.
g  Truly in the  Lord our God
is the salvation of Israel.

24“But from our youth the shameful thing has devoured all for which our fathers labored, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. 25 h  Let us lie down in our shame, and let our dishonor cover us. For i  we have sinned against the  Lord our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and we have not obeyed the voice of the  Lord our God.”

Jeremiah 31:9

9 j  With weeping they shall come,
k  and with pleas for mercy I will lead them back,
I will make them l  walk by brooks of water,
m  in a straight path in which they shall not stumble,
for n  I am a father to Israel,
and Ephraim is o  my firstborn.

Zechariah 12:10-11

Him Whom They Have Pierced

10“And p  I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and q  pleas for mercy, so that, r  when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced s  they shall mourn for him, t  as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. 11 u  On that day v  the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great w  as the mourning for Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.

Matthew 5:4

4Blessed are x  those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

2 Corinthians 7:10-11

10For y  godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas z  worldly grief produces death. 11For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing aa  what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.
