Proverbs 22:22-23

22 a  Do not rob the poor, because he is poor,
or b  crush the afflicted at c  the gate,
23for d  the  Lord will plead their cause
and rob of life those who rob them.

Proverbs 23:10-11

10 e  Do not move an ancient landmark
or enter the fields of the fatherless,
11for their f  Redeemer is strong;
he will g  plead their cause against you.

Evil Under the Sun

1 h  Again I i  saw all j  the oppressions that are done under the sun. And behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they had k  no one to comfort them! On the side of their oppressors there was power, and there was no one to comfort them.

Isaiah 1:17-24

17learn to do good;
o  seek justice,

p  bring justice to the fatherless,
plead the widow’s cause.
18 Come now, q  let us reason
Or dispute
, says the  Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as s  white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.
19 t  If you are willing and obedient,
you shall eat the good of the land;
20but if you refuse and rebel,
you shall be eaten by the sword;
u  for the mouth of the  Lord has spoken.”

The Unfaithful City

21 How the faithful city
v  has become a whore,
Or  become unchaste

x  she who was full of justice!
Righteousness lodged in her,
but now murderers.
22 y  Your silver has become dross,
your best wine mixed with water.
23Your princes are rebels
and companions of thieves.
Everyone z  loves a bribe
and runs after gifts.
aa  They do not bring justice to the fatherless,
and the widow’s cause does not come to them.
24 Therefore the ab  Lord declares,
the  Lord of hosts,
the ac  Mighty One of Israel:
Ah, I will get relief from my enemies
ad  and avenge myself on my foes.

Isaiah 5:8

Woe to the Wicked

8 Woe to those who ae  join house to house,
who add field to field,
until there is no more room,
and you are made to dwell alone
in the midst of the land.

Isaiah 58:6

6 “Is not this the fast that I choose:
af  to loose the bonds of wickedness,
to undo the straps ag  of the yoke,
to let the oppressed
Or bruised
go free,
and to break every yoke?
