Matt 27:1
aWhen morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people btook counsel against Jesus to put him to death.
Πρωΐας δὲ γενομένης συμβούλιον ἔλαβον πάντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὥστε θανατῶσαι αὐτόν·
Matt 27:2
And they bound him and cled him away and ddelivered him over to ePilate the governor.

καὶ δήσαντες αὐτὸν ἀπήγαγον καὶ

Matt 27:3
Then when gJudas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus

Matt 27:5
And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple qhe departed, and he went and hanged himself.
καὶ ῥίψας τὰ ἀργύρια

εἰς τὸν ναὸν ⸃ ἀνεχώρησεν, καὶ ἀπελθὼν ἀπήγξατο.
Matt 27:6
But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into sthe treasury, since it is blood money.”
οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τὰ ἀργύρια εἶπαν· Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν κορβανᾶν, ἐπεὶ τιμὴ αἵματός ἐστιν·
Matt 27:7
So they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field as a burial place for strangers.
συμβούλιον δὲ λαβόντες ἠγόρασαν ἐξ αὐτῶν τὸν Ἀγρὸν τοῦ Κεραμέως εἰς ταφὴν τοῖς ξένοις.
Matt 27:8
Therefore tthat field has been called the Field of Blood uto this day.
διὸ ἐκλήθη ἀγρὸς ἐκεῖνος Ἀγρὸς Αἵματος ἕως τῆς σήμερον.
Matt 27:9
vThen was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying wAnd they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel,
τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἰερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· Καὶ ἔλαβον τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια, τὴν τιμὴν τοῦ τετιμημένου ὃν ἐτιμήσαντο ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ,
Matt 27:10
and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”

καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦ κεραμέως, καθὰ συνέταξέν μοι κύριος.

Matt 27:11
xNow Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you ythe King of the Jews?” Jesus said, zYou have said so.”
δὲ Ἰησοῦς

Matt 27:12
acBut when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer.

Matt 27:13
Then Pilate said to him ae“Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?”
τότε λέγει αὐτῷ Πιλᾶτος· Οὐκ ἀκούεις πόσα σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;
Matt 27:14
But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.

καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ πρὸς οὐδὲ ἓν ῥῆμα, ὥστε θαυμάζειν τὸν ἡγεμόνα λίαν.

Matt 27:15
afNow at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted.
Κατὰ δὲ ἑορτὴν εἰώθει ἡγεμὼν ἀπολύειν ἕνα τῷ ὄχλῳ δέσμιον ὃν ἤθελον.
Matt 27:16
And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
εἶχον δὲ τότε δέσμιον ἐπίσημον λεγόμενον

Matt 27:17
So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or ahJesus who is called Christ?”

For he knew that it was out ajof envy that they had delivered him up.

Matt 27:19
Besides, while he was sitting on akthe judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with althat righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today amin a dream.”
Καθημένου δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ βήματος ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτὸν γυνὴ αὐτοῦ λέγουσα· Μηδὲν σοὶ καὶ τῷ δικαίῳ ἐκείνῳ, πολλὰ γὰρ ἔπαθον σήμερον κατ᾽ ὄναρ δι᾽ αὐτόν.
Matt 27:20
Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to anask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.
Οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι ἔπεισαν τοὺς ὄχλους ἵνα αἰτήσωνται τὸν Βαραββᾶν τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν ἀπολέσωσιν.
Matt 27:21
The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.”
ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ἡγεμὼν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τίνα θέλετε ἀπὸ τῶν δύο ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν·

Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” apThey all said, “Let him be crucified!”

And he said, “Why arwhat evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”

Matt 27:24
So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that ata riot was beginning, he took water and auwashed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of avthis man’s blood;
Some manuscripts  this righteous blood, or  this righteous man’s blood
axsee to it yourselves.”
ἰδὼν δὲ Πιλᾶτος ὅτι οὐδὲν ὠφελεῖ ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον θόρυβος γίνεται λαβὼν ὕδωρ ἀπενίψατο τὰς χεῖρας

Matt 27:25
And all the people answered baHis blood be on us and bbon our children!”

Matt 27:26
Then he released for them Barabbas, and having bcscourged
A Roman judicial penalty, consisting of a severe beating with a multi-lashed whip containing imbedded pieces of bone and metal
Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.

τότε ἀπέλυσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν, τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν φραγελλώσας παρέδωκεν ἵνα σταυρωθῇ.

Matt 27:27
beThen the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the bfgovernor’s headquarters
Greek  the praetorium
and they gathered the whole bhbattalion
Greek cohort; a tenth of a Roman legion, usually about 600 men
before him.
Τότε οἱ στρατιῶται τοῦ ἡγεμόνος παραλαβόντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον συνήγαγον ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν.
Matt 27:28
And they stripped him and put bja scarlet robe on him,
καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν
 χλαμύδα κοκκίνην περιέθηκαν αὐτῷ = WH Treg NA/NIV: || περιέθηκαν αὐτῷ χλαμύδα κοκκίνην = RP
χλαμύδα κοκκίνην περιέθηκαν αὐτῷ ⸃,
Matt 27:29
and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they blmocked him, saying, “Hail bmKing of the Jews!”

Matt 27:30
And brthey spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head.
καὶ ἐμπτύσαντες εἰς αὐτὸν ἔλαβον τὸν κάλαμον καὶ ἔτυπτον εἰς τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ.
Matt 27:31
And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and bsled him away to crucify him.

καὶ ὅτε ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ, ἐξέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὴν χλαμύδα καὶ ἐνέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ σταυρῶσαι.

Matt 27:32
bt , buAs they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to bvcarry his cross.
Ἐξερχόμενοι δὲ εὗρον ἄνθρωπον Κυρηναῖον ὀνόματι Σίμωνα· τοῦτον ἠγγάρευσαν ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ.
Matt 27:33
bwAnd when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull),
Καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τόπον λεγόμενον Γολγοθᾶ, ἐστιν

bythey offered him wine to drink, mixed with bzgall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it.

Then they sat down and cdkept watch over him there.
καὶ καθήμενοι ἐτήρουν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ.

And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus cethe King of the Jews.”
καὶ ἐπέθηκαν ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ τὴν αἰτίαν αὐτοῦ γεγραμμένην· Οὗτός ἐστιν Ἰησοῦς βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων.

Matt 27:38
Then two cfrobbers were crucified with him cgone on the right and one on the left.
Τότε σταυροῦνται σὺν αὐτῷ δύο λῃσταί, εἷς ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ εἷς ἐξ εὐωνύμων.
Matt 27:39
And chthose who passed by ciderided him cjwagging their heads
οἱ δὲ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν
Matt 27:40
and saying ck“You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! clIf you are cmthe Son of God, come down from the cross.”
καὶ λέγοντες· καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις οἰκοδομῶν, σῶσον σεαυτόν· εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ,

Matt 27:46
And about the ninth hour Jesus dccried out with a loud voice, saying, ddEli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”

Matt 27:48
And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with dhsour wine, and put it on a reed and digave it to him to drink.
καὶ εὐθέως δραμὼν εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ λαβὼν σπόγγον πλήσας τε ὄξους καὶ περιθεὶς καλάμῳ ἐπότιζεν αὐτόν.
Matt 27:49
But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.”

And behold dnthe curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And dothe earth shook, and the rocks were split.

and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into dtthe holy city and appeared to many.

Matt 27:59
And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud

Mary Magdalene and enthe other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.

Matt 27:62
The next day, that is, after the day of epPreparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate
Τῇ δὲ ἐπαύριον, ἥτις ἐστὶν μετὰ τὴν παρασκευήν, συνήχθησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι πρὸς Πιλᾶτον
Matt 27:63
and said, “Sir, we remember how eqthat impostor said, while he was still alive, erAfter three days I will rise.’
λέγοντες· Κύριε, ἐμνήσθημεν ὅτι ἐκεῖνος πλάνος εἶπεν ἔτι ζῶν· Μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἐγείρομαι·
Matt 27:64
Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day eslest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.”
κέλευσον οὖν ἀσφαλισθῆναι τὸν τάφον ἕως τῆς τρίτης ἡμέρας, μήποτε ἐλθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ

αὐτοῦ κλέψωσιν αὐτὸν καὶ εἴπωσιν τῷ λαῷ· Ἠγέρθη ἀπὸ τῶν νεκρῶν, καὶ ἔσται ἐσχάτη πλάνη χείρων τῆς πρώτης.
Matt 27:65
Pilate said to them, “You have eua guard
Or Take a guard
of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.”

ἔφη αὐτοῖς Πιλᾶτος· Ἔχετε κουστωδίαν· ὑπάγετε ἀσφαλίσασθε ὡς οἴδατε.
Matt 27:66
So they went and made the tomb secure by exsealing the stone and setting a guard.

οἱ δὲ πορευθέντες ἠσφαλίσαντο τὸν τάφον σφραγίσαντες τὸν λίθον μετὰ τῆς κουστωδίας.
