3 John
A Good Report
1 aThe elder to the beloved bGaius, whom I clove in truth. 2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. 3For I dwas overjoyed when ebrothers came and testified to your truth, that is, how you fare walking in truth. 4I have no greater joy than ▼▼Lit these things, that I hear
this, to hear of hmy children iwalking in the truth. 5 Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the jbrothers and sisters, and ▼▼Lit this
especially when they are lstrangers; 6and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to ▼▼I.e., give them whatever they might need for the journey
nsend them on their way in a manner oworthy of God. 7For they went out for the sake of pthe Name, qaccepting nothing from the Gentiles. 8Therefore we ought to ▼▼Or receive as guests
support such people, so that we may ▼▼Or become fellow
prove to be fellow workers ▼▼Or for
with the truth. 9 I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to ube first among them, does not accept ▼▼Lit us
what we say. 10For this reason, wif I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with malicious words; and not satisfied with this, he himself does not xreceive the ybrothers either, and he forbids those who want to do so and zputs them out of the church. 11 Beloved, aado not imitate what is evil, but what is good. abThe one who does what is good is of God; acthe one who does what is evil has not seen God. 12Demetrius adhas received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself; and we testify too, and aeyou know that our testimony is true. 13 afI had many things to write to you, but I do not want to write to you with pen and ink; 14but I hope to see you shortly, and we will speak ▼▼Lit mouth to mouth
face to face. 15 ahPeace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends aiby name.
