The gsongs of the palace will turn to hwailing on that day,” declares the Lord God. “The icorpses will be many; in every place ▼▼Lit he has thrown
they will throw them out. ▼▼An order for sacred silence
Hush!” 4 Hear this, you who ▼▼Or snap at
mtrample the needy, to put an end to the humble of the land, 5saying, “When will the nnew moon ▼
▼Lit pass by

And the pSabbath, so that we may open the wheat market,
To make the ▼
▼About 1 cubic foot or 0.03 cubic meters

And that we may sell the refuse of the wheat?”
7 The Lord has vsworn by the wpride of Jacob,
“Indeed, I will xnever forget any of their deeds.
8 “Because of this will the land not yquake,
And everyone who lives in it zmourn?
Indeed, all of it will aarise up like the Nile,

broad daylight. 10 “Then I will aeturn your festivals into mourning,
And all your songs into songs of mourning;
And I will put afsackcloth around everyone’s waist,
And ▼
▼I.e., shaved as a sign of mourning
baldness on every head. And I will make it ahlike a time of mourning for an only son,
And the end of it will be like a bitter day.
11 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord God,
“When I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine of bread or a thirst for water,
But rather aifor hearing the words of the Lord.
12 “People will stagger from sea to sea
And from the north even to the east;
They will roam about to ajseek the word of the Lord,
But they will not find it.
