‏ Psalms 31

A Psalm of Complaint and of Praise.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

1 aIn You, Lord, I have taken refuge;
Let me never bbe
Or ashamed;
put to shame;
dIn Your righteousness rescue me.

2 eIncline Your ear to me, rescue me quickly;
Be a frock of
Or refuge, protection
strength for me,
A
Lit house of a stronghold
stronghold to save me.

3 For You are my rock and imy fortress;
For the jsake of Your name You will lead me and guide me.

4 You will kpull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
For You are my lstrength.

5 mInto Your hand I entrust my spirit;
You have nredeemed me, Lord, oGod of
Or faithfulness
truth.

6 I hate those who qdevote themselves to worthless
Lit futilities
idols,
But I strust in the Lord.

7 I will trejoice and be glad in Your faithfulness,
Because You have useen my misery;
You have known the troubles of my soul,

8 And You have not vhanded me over to the enemy;
You have set my feet in a large place.

9 Be gracious to me, Lord, for wI am in distress;
My xeye is wasted away from grief, ymy soul and my body too.

10 For my life is spent with zsorrow
And my years with sighing;
My aastrength has failed because of my guilt,
And abmy
Or bones, substance
body has wasted away.

11 Because of all my adversaries, I have become a addisgrace,
Especially to my aeneighbors,
And an object of dread to my acquaintances;
Those who see me in the street flee from me.

12 I am afforgotten like a dead person, out of mind;
I am like a broken vessel.

13 For I have heard the
Lit whispering
ahslander of many,
aiTerror is on every side;
While they ajtook counsel together against me,
They akschemed to take away my life.

14 But as for me, I trust in You, Lord,
I say, “ alYou are my God.”

15 My amtimes are in Your hand;
anRescue me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me.

16 Make Your aoface shine upon Your servant;
apSave me in Your faithfulness.

17 Let me not be aqput to shame, Lord, for I call upon You;
Let the arwicked be put to shame, let them asbe silent in
I.e., the netherworld
Sheol.

18 Let the aulying lips be speechless,
Which avspeak arrogantly against the righteous
With pride and contempt.

19 How great is Your awgoodness,
Which You have stored up for those who fear You,
Which You have performed for those who axtake refuge in You,
ayBefore the sons of mankind!

20 You hide them in the azsecret place of Your presence from the baconspiracies of mankind;
You keep them secretly in a
Or pavilion
shelter from the bcstrife of tongues.

21 bdBlessed be the Lord,
For He has shown His bemarvelous faithfulness to me in a besieged bfcity.

22 As for me, bgI said in my alarm,
“I am bhcut off from Your eyes”;
Nevertheless You biheard the sound of my pleadings
When I called to You for help.

23 Love the Lord, all bjHis godly ones!
The Lord bkwatches over the faithful
But fully blrepays the one who acts arrogantly.

24 bmBe strong and let your heart take courage,
All you who wait for the Lord.
