1 Thessalonians 4

Sanctification and Love

a Finally then b brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to
Or conduct yourselves
d walk and e please God (just as you actually do
Or conduct yourselves
walk), that you g excel still more.
For you know what commandments we gave you
Lit through the Lord
by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you i abstain from
Or fornication
sexual immorality;
that k each of you know how to
Or acquire
possess his own
I.e. body; or wife
n vessel in sanctification and o honor,
not in
Lit passion of lust
q lustful passion, like the Gentiles who r do not know God;
and that no man transgress and s defraud his brother t in the matter because u the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also v told you before and solemnly warned you. For w God has not called us for x the purpose of impurity, but
I.e. in the state or sphere of
in sanctification.
So, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who z gives His Holy Spirit to you.

Now as to the aa love of the brethren, you ab have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves are ac taught by God to love one another; 10 for indeed ad you do practice it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brethren, to ae excel still more, 11 and to make it your ambition af to lead a quiet life and ag attend to your own business and ah work with your hands, just as we commanded you, 12 so that you will
Lit walk
aj behave properly toward ak outsiders and
Lit have need of nothing
am not be in any need.

Those Who Died in Christ

13 But an we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who ao are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do ap the rest who have aq no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again ar even so God will bring with Him as those who have fallen asleep
Lit through
in Jesus.
15 For this we say to you au by the word of the Lord, that av we who are alive
Lit who
and remain until ax the coming of the Lord, will not precede ay those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord az Himself ba will descend from heaven with a
Or cry of command
bc shout, with the voice of bd  the archangel and with the be trumpet of God, and bf the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then bg we who are alive
Lit who
and remain will be bi caught up together with them bj in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always bk be with the Lord.
18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
