1 Timothy 4

Apostasy

1But a  the Spirit explicitly says that b  in later times some will
I.e. apostacize
fall away from the faith, paying attention to d  deceitful spirits and e  doctrines of demons,
2by means of the hypocrisy of liars f  seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, 3men who g  forbid marriage and advocate h  abstaining from foods which i  God has created to be j  gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth. 4For k  everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is l  received with gratitude; 5for it is sanctified by means of m  the word of God and prayer.

A Good Minister’s Discipline

6In pointing out these things to n  the brethren, you will be a good o  servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the

7But
Or reject
have nothing to do with t  worldly u  fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of v  godliness;
8for w  bodily discipline is only of little profit, but x  godliness is profitable for all things, since it y  holds promise for the z  present life and also for the life to come. 9 aa  It is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance. 10For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed ab  our hope on ac  the living God, who is ad  the Savior of all men, especially of believers.

af  Prescribe and teach these things.
12 ag  Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct ah  love, faith and purity, show yourself ai  an example

of those who believe.
13 ak  Until I come, give attention to the public al  reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching. 14Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through am  prophetic utterance with an  the laying on of hands by the

15Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. 16 aq  Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will
Lit save both yourself and those
,
as  ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
