Colossians 2

You Are Built Up in Christ

1For I want you to know how great a a  struggle I have on your behalf and for those who are at b  Laodicea, and for all those who have not
Lit in the flesh
personally seen my face,
2that their d  hearts may be encouraged, having been e  knit together in love, and attaining to all f  the wealth
Lit of the full assurance
that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a h  true knowledge of i  God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself,
3in whom are hidden all j  the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 k  I say this so that no one will delude you with l  persuasive argument. 5For even though I am m  absent in body, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, rejoicing
Lit and seeing
to see
Or your good order
your p  good discipline and the q  stability of your faith in Christ.

6Therefore as you have received r  Christ Jesus the Lord, so
Or lead your life
t  walk in Him,
7having been firmly u  rooted and now being v  built up in Him and w  established
Or by
in your faith, just as you y  were instructed, and overflowing
One early ms reads in it with
with gratitude.

8 aa  See to it that no one takes you captive through ab  philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the ac  elementary principles of the world
Lit and not
rather than according to Christ.
9For in Him all the ae  fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10and in Him you have been af  made
Lit full
complete, and ah  He is the head
Lit of
over all aj  rule and authority;
11and in Him ak  you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of al  the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; 12having been am  buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also an  raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who ao  raised Him from the dead. 13When you were ap  dead
Or by reason of
in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He ar  made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,
14having canceled out as  the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and at  He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15When He had
Or divested Himself of
av  disarmed the aw  rulers and authorities, He ax  made a public display of them, having ay  triumphed over them through
Or it; i.e. the cross

16Therefore no one is to
Lit judge you
bb  act as your judge in regard to bc  food or bd  drink or in respect to a be  festival or a bf  new moon or a bg  Sabbath
Or days
17things which are bi  a mere shadow of what is to come; but the
Lit body
Lit of Christ
belongs to Christ.
18Let no one keep
Or deciding against you
bm  defrauding you of your prize by bn  delighting in
Or humility
self-abasement and the worship of the angels
Or going into detail about
taking his stand on visions he has seen
Or conceited
br  inflated without cause by his bs  fleshly mind,
19and not holding fast to bt  the head, from whom bu  the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and
Lit bonds
ligaments, grows with a growth
Lit of God
which is from God.

20 bx  If you have died with Christ
Lit from
to the bz  elementary principles of the world ca  why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to cb  decrees, such as,
21Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!” 22(which all refer cc  to things destined to perish
Or by being consumed
with use)—in accordance with the ce  commandments and teachings of men?
23These are matters which have, to be sure, the
Lit report; Gr logos
appearance of wisdom in
Or would-be religion
ch  self-made religion and self-abasement and ci  severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against cj  fleshly indulgence.
