Exodus 15

The Song of Moses and Israel

a Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the  Lord
Lit and said, saying
and said,
Or Let me sing
d I will sing to the  Lord, for He
Or triumphed gloriously
is highly exalted;
f The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.
Heb  Yah
h “The  Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
i This is my God, and I will praise Him;
j My father’s God, and I will k extol Him.
l “The  Lord is a warrior;
Heb YHWH, usually rendered  Lord
n The  Lord is His name.
o Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea;
And the choicest of his officers are
Lit sunk
drowned in the
Lit Sea of Reeds
Red Sea.
The deeps cover them;
r They went down into the depths like a stone.
s Your right hand, O  Lord, is majestic in power,
t Your right hand, O  Lord, shatters the enemy.
And in the greatness of Your
Or exaltation
excellence You v overthrow those who rise up against You;
w You send forth Your burning anger, and it x consumes them as chaff.
y At the blast of Your nostrils the waters were piled up,
z The flowing waters stood up like a heap;
The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.
aa The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will ab divide the spoil;
Lit soul
desire shall be
Lit be filled with them
gratified against them;
I will draw out my sword, my hand will
Or dispossess, bring to ruin
destroy them.’
10  af You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them;
ag They sank like lead in the
Or majestic
mighty waters.
11  ai Who is like You among the gods, O  Lord?
Who is like You, aj majestic in holiness,
ak Awesome in praises al working wonders?
12  am You stretched out Your right hand,
The earth swallowed them.
13 In Your lovingkindness You have an led the people whom You have ao redeemed;
In Your strength You have guided them ap to Your holy habitation.
14  aq The peoples have heard, they tremble;
Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia.
15 Then the ar chiefs of Edom were dismayed;
as The leaders of Moab, trembling grips them;
at All the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.
16  au Terror and dread fall upon them;
av By the greatness of Your arm they are motionless as stone;
Until Your people pass over, O  Lord,
Until the people pass over whom You aw have purchased.
17  ax You will bring them and ay plant them in az the mountain of Your inheritance,
ba The place, O  Lord, which You have made for Your dwelling,
bb The sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.
18  bc “The  Lord shall reign forever and ever.”

19  bd For the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, and the  Lord brought back the waters of the sea on them, but the sons of Israel walked on be dry land through the midst of the sea.

20  bf Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took the bg timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with
Lit dances
bi dancing.
21 Miriam answered them, bj Sing to the  Lord, for He
Or has triumphed gloriously
is highly exalted;
The horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea.”

The  Lord Provides Water

22  bl Then Moses
Lit caused Israel to journey
led Israel from the
Lit Sea of Reeds
Red Sea, and they went out into bo the wilderness of bp Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.
23 When they came to bq Marah, they could not drink the waters
Lit from
of Marah, for they were
Heb Marim
bitter; therefore it was named
I.e. bitterness
24 So the people bu grumbled at Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 Then he bv cried out to the  Lord, and the  Lord showed him bw a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet.

There He bx made for them a statute and regulation, and there He by tested them.
26 And He said bz If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the  Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear ca to His commandments, and keep all His statutes cb I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, cc the  Lord, am your healer.”

27 Then they came to cd Elim where there were twelve springs of water and seventy date palms, and they camped there beside the waters.
