Jerusalem Is Warned1 Woe, O ▼
▼ I.e. Lion of God, or JerusalemAriel ▼
▼ I.e. Lion of God, or JerusalemAriel the city where David once c camped!
Add year to year ▼
▼ Lit let your feasts run their round, e observe your feasts on schedule.
2 I will bring distress to Ariel,
And she will be a city of lamenting and f mourning;
And she will be like an Ariel to me.
3 I will g camp against you ▼
▼ Lit like a circleencircling you,
And I will set siegeworks against you,
And I will raise up battle towers against you.
4 Then you will i be brought low;
From the earth you will speak,
And from the dust where you are prostrate
Your words will come.
Your voice will also be like that of a ▼
▼ Or ghostspirit from the ground,
And your speech will whisper from the dust.
5 But the multitude of your ▼
▼ Lit strangersenemies will become like fine l dust,
And the multitude of the m ruthless ones like the chaff which ▼
▼ Lit passes awayblows away;
And it will happen o instantly, suddenly.
6 From the Lord of hosts you will be p punished with q thunder and earthquake and loud noise,
With whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a consuming fire.
7 And the r multitude of all the nations who wage war against ▼
▼ V 1, note 1Ariel,
Even all who wage war against her and her stronghold, and who distress her,
Will be like a dream, a t vision of the night.
8 It will be as when a hungry man dreams—
And behold, he is eating;
But when he awakens, his ▼
▼ Lit soulhunger is not satisfied,
Or as when a thirsty man dreams—
And behold, he is drinking,
But when he awakens, behold, he is faint
And his ▼
▼ Lit soulthirst is not quenched.
w Thus the multitude of all the nations will be
Who wage war against Mount Zion.
9 x Be delayed and wait,
Blind yourselves and be blind;
They y become drunk, but not with wine,
They stagger, but not with strong drink.
10 For the Lord has poured over you a spirit of deep z sleep,
He has aa shut your eyes, the prophets;
And He has covered your heads, the seers.
11 The entire vision will be to you like the words of a sealed ▼
▼ Or scroll, ac book, which when they give it to the one who ▼
▼ Lit knows booksis literate, saying, “Please read this,” he will say, “I cannot, for it is sealed.” 12 Then the ▼
▼ Or scrollbook will be given to the one who ▼
▼ Lit does not know booksis illiterate, saying, “Please read this.” And he will say, “I ▼
▼ Lit do not know bookscannot read.” 13 Then the Lord said, “Because ah this people draw near with their ▼
▼ Lit mouthwords
And honor Me with their ▼
▼ Lit lipslip service,
But they remove their hearts far from Me,
And their ▼
▼ Lit fear of Mereverence for Me ▼
▼ Lit isconsists of ▼
▼ Lit commandment of rulerstradition learned by rote,
14 Therefore behold, I will once again deal an marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous;
And ao the wisdom of their wise men will perish,
And the discernment of their discerning men will be concealed.”
15 Woe to those who deeply ap hide their ▼
▼ Lit counselplans from the Lord,
And whose ar deeds are done in a dark place,
And they say as “Who sees us?” or “Who knows us?”
16 You turn things around!
Shall the potter be considered ▼
▼ Lit likeas equal with the clay,
That au what is made would say to its maker, “He did not make me”;
Or what is formed say to him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?
Blessing after Discipline17 Is it not yet just a little while
▼ Lit AndBefore Lebanon will be turned into a aw fertile field,
And the fertile field will be considered as a forest?
18 On that day the ax deaf will hear ay words of a book,
And out of their gloom and darkness the az eyes of the blind will see.
19 The ba afflicted also will increase their gladness in the Lord,
And the bb needy of mankind will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
20 For the bc ruthless will come to an end and the bd scorner will be finished,
Indeed be all who ▼
▼ Lit watch evilare intent on doing evil will be cut off;
21 Who ▼
▼ Lit bring a person under condemnationcause a person to be indicted by a word,
And bh ensnare him who adjudicates at the gate,
▼ Lit turn aside, bj defraud the one in the right with ▼
▼ Lit confusionmeaningless arguments.
22 Therefore thus says the Lord, who redeemed bl Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: “Jacob bm shall not now be ashamed, nor shall his face now turn pale;
23 But when ▼
▼ Or his children seehe sees his bo children, the bp work of My hands, in his midst,
They will sanctify My name;
Indeed, they will bq sanctify the Holy One of Jacob
And will stand in awe of the God of Israel.
24 “Those who br err in ▼
▼ Lit spiritmind will bt know ▼
▼ Lit understandingthe truth,
And those who ▼
▼ Lit murmurcriticize will ▼
▼ Lit learn, bx accept instruction.

Looking up a passage in three different translations is also easy.
This asks STEP to search for the Greek word for 'brother' and show the results in the ESV.
This example runs both a 'Hebrew word search' and a 'Text' search and shows the results in both the NIV and ESV.
You can mix most searches. This finds any word translated as 'throne' in the Prophets and the New Testament, but only in verses concerning the topic 'David'. This excludes verses which refer to a 'throne' in other contexts.
