Isaiah 45

God Uses Cyrus

1Thus says the  Lord to a  Cyrus His anointed,
Whom I have taken by the right b  hand,
To c  subdue nations before him
Lit I will loose
to e  loose the loins of kings;
To open doors before him so that gates will not be shut:
2I will go before you and f  make the
Another reading is mountains
rough places smooth;
I will h  shatter the doors of bronze and cut through their iron i  bars.
3I will give you the
Or hoarded treasures
k  treasures of darkness
And hidden wealth of secret places,
So that you may know that it is I,
The  Lord, the God of Israel, who l  calls you by your name.
4For the sake of m  Jacob My servant,
And Israel My chosen one,
I have also n  called you by your name;
I have given you a title of honor
Though you have o  not known Me.
5“I am the  Lord, and p  there is no other;
q  Besides Me there is no God.
I will
Or arm
s  gird you, though you have not known Me;
Lit they
u  men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun
That there is v  no one besides Me.
I am the  Lord, and there is no other,
7The One w  forming light and x  creating darkness,
Or peace
well-being and z  creating calamity;
I am the  Lord who does all these.

God’s Supreme Power

8 aa  Drip down, O heavens, from above,
And let the clouds pour down righteousness;
Let the ab  earth open up and salvation bear fruit,
ac  And righteousness spring up with it.
I, the  Lord, have created it.

9Woe to the one who ad  quarrels with his
Lit Fashioner
An earthenware vessel
Lit with
among the vessels of earth!
Will the ag  clay say to the
Lit Fashioner
potter, ‘What are you doing?’
Or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands’?
10Woe to him who says to a father, ‘What are you begetting?’
Or to a woman, ‘To what are you
Lit in labor pains with
giving birth?’”

11Thus says the aj   Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his
Lit Fashioner
al  Maker:
Or Will you ask
an  Ask Me about the things to come
Or upon
concerning My ap  sons,
And you shall commit to Me aq  the work of My hands.
12“It is I who ar  made the earth, and created man upon it.
I as  stretched out the heavens with My hands
And I
Or commanded
ordained au  all their host.
13I have aroused him in av  righteousness
And I will aw  make all his ways smooth;
He will ax  build My city and will let My exiles go ay  free,
Without any payment or reward,” says the  Lord of hosts.

14Thus says the  Lord, “The

Or Ethiopia
bc  Cush
And the Sabeans, men of stature,
Will bd  come over to you and will be yours;
They will walk behind you, they will come over in be  chains
And will bf  bow down to you;
They will make supplication to you:
Or God is with you alone
Surely bh  God is
Or in
with you, and bj  there is none else,
No other God.’”
15Truly, You are a God who bk  hides Himself,
O God of Israel bl  Savior!
16They will be bm  put to shame and even humiliated, all of them;
The bn  manufacturers of idols will go away together in humiliation.
17Israel has been saved by the  Lord
With an bo  everlasting salvation;
You bp  will not be put to shame or humiliated
To all eternity.

18For thus says the  Lord, who bq  created the heavens (He is the God who br  formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it
Or in vain
a bt  waste place, but formed it to be bu  inhabited), “I am the  Lord, and bv  there is none else.
19 bw  I have not spoken in secret,
Lit a place of a land of darkness
some dark land;
I did not say to the
Lit seed
bz  offspring of Jacob,
ca  Seek Me in
Or vain
a waste place’;
I, the  Lord cc  speak righteousness,
cd  Declaring things that are upright.

20 ce  Gather yourselves and come;
Draw near together, you fugitives of the nations;
cf  They have no knowledge,
Who cg  carry about
Lit the wood of their graven image
their wooden idol
And ci  pray to a god who cannot save.
21 cj  Declare and set forth your case;
Indeed, let them consult together.
ck  Who has announced this from of old?
Who has long since declared it?
Is it not I, the  Lord?
And there is cl  no other God besides Me,
A righteous God and a cm  Savior;
There is none except Me.
22 cn  Turn to Me and co  be saved, all the ends of the earth;
For I am God, and there is no other.
23 cp  I have sworn by Myself,
The cq  word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness
And will not turn back,
That to Me cr  every knee will bow, every tongue will cs  swear allegiance.
24They will say of Me, ‘Only ct  in the  Lord are righteousness and strength.’
Men will come to Him,
And cu  all who were angry at Him will be put to shame.
25“In the  Lord all the offspring of Israel
Will be cv  justified and will cw  glory.”
