Psalms 107

BOOK 5

The  Lord Delivers Men from Manifold Troubles.

1 Oh a  give thanks to the  Lord, for b  He is good,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
2Let c  the redeemed of the  Lord say so,
Whom He has d  redeemed from the hand of the adversary
3And e  gathered from the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the
Lit sea
south.

4They g  wandered in the wilderness in a
Lit waste
desert region;
They did not find a way to
Or a habitable city; lit a city of habitation
an inhabited j  city.
5 They were hungry
Lit also
and thirsty;
Their l  soul fainted within them.
6Then they m  cried out to the  Lord in their trouble;
He delivered them out of their distresses.
7He led them also by a
Or level
,
o  straight way,
To go to
Or a habitable city; lit a city of habitation
,
q  an inhabited city.
8 r  Let them give thanks to the  Lord for His lovingkindness,
And for His
I.e. wonderful acts
wonders to the sons of men!
9For He has t  satisfied the
Or parched
thirsty soul,
And the v  hungry soul He has filled with what is good.

10There were those who w  dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death,
x  Prisoners in
Lit affliction
misery and
Lit irons
chains,
11Because they had aa  rebelled against the words of God
And ab  spurned the ac  counsel of the Most High.
12Therefore He humbled their heart with labor;
They stumbled and there was ad  none to help.
13Then they ae  cried out to the  Lord in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.
14He af  brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death
And ag  broke their bands apart.
15 ah  Let them give thanks to the  Lord for His lovingkindness,
And for His
I.e. wonderful acts
wonders to the sons of men!
16For He has aj  shattered gates of bronze
And cut bars of iron asunder.

17Fools, because of
Lit the way of their transgression
their rebellious way,
And al  because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
18Their am  soul abhorred all kinds of food,
And they an  drew near to the ao  gates of death.
19Then they cried out to the  Lord in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.
20He ap  sent His word and aq  healed them,
And ar  delivered them from their
Or pits
destructions.
21 at  Let them give thanks to the  Lord for His lovingkindness,
And for His
I.e. wonderful acts
wonders to the sons of men!
22Let them also offer av  sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And aw  tell of His works with joyful singing.

23Those who ax  go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business on great waters;
24They have seen the works of the  Lord,
And His
I.e. wonderful acts
wonders in the deep.
25For He az  spoke and raised up a ba  stormy wind,
Which bb  lifted up the waves
Lit of it
of the sea.
26They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths;
Their soul bd  melted away in their misery.
27They reeled and be  staggered like a drunken man,
And
Lit all their wisdom was swallowed up
were at their wits’ end.
28Then they cried to the  Lord in their trouble,
And He brought them out of their distresses.
29He bg  caused the storm to be still,
So that the waves
Lit of it
of the sea were hushed.
30Then they were glad because they were quiet,
So He guided them to their desired haven.
31 bi  Let them give thanks to the  Lord for His lovingkindness,
And for His
I.e. wonderful acts
,
bk  wonders to the sons of men!
32Let them bl  extol Him also bm  in the congregation of the people,
And bn  praise Him at the seat of the elders.

33He
Or turns
,
bp  changes rivers into a
Or desert
wilderness
And springs of water into a thirsty ground;
34A br  fruitful land into a bs  salt waste,
Because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35He
Or turns
,
bu  changes a
Or desert
wilderness into a pool of water
And a dry land into springs of water;
36And there He makes the hungry to dwell,
So that they may establish
Or a habitable city; lit a city of habitation
,
bx  an inhabited city,
37And sow fields and by  plant vineyards,
And
Lit acquire fruits of yield
gather a fruitful harvest.
38Also He blesses them and they ca  multiply greatly,
And He cb  does not let their cattle decrease.

39When they are cc  diminished and cd  bowed down
Through oppression, misery and sorrow,
40He ce  pours contempt upon
Or nobles
princes
And cg  makes them wander ch  in a pathless waste.
41But He ci  sets the needy
Lit in an inaccessibly high place
securely on high away from affliction,
And ck  makes his families like a flock.
42The cl  upright see it and are glad;
But all cm  unrighteousness shuts its mouth.
43Who is cn  wise? Let him give heed to these things,
And consider the co  lovingkindnesses of the  Lord.
