Psalms 116

Thanksgiving for Deliverance from Death.

1 a  I love the  Lord, because He b  hears
My voice and my supplications.
2Because He has c  inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live.
3The d  cords of death encompassed me
And the
Lit straits
terrors of
I.e. the nether world
Lit found me
came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
4Then h  I called upon the name of the  Lord:
“O  Lord, I beseech You,
Or deliver my soul
j  save my life!”

5 k  Gracious is the  Lord, and l  righteous;
Yes, our God is m  compassionate.
6The  Lord preserves n  the simple;
I was o  brought low, and He saved me.
7Return to your p  rest, O my soul,
For the  Lord has q  dealt bountifully with you.
8For You have r  rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
My feet from stumbling.
9I shall walk before the  Lord
In the
Lit lands
t  land of the living.
10I u  believed when I said,
“I am v  greatly afflicted.”
11I w  said in my alarm,
x  All men are liars.”

12What shall I y  render to the  Lord
For all His z  benefits
Lit upon
toward me?
13I shall lift up the ab  cup of salvation
And ac  call upon the name of the  Lord.
14I shall ad  pay my vows to the  Lord,
Oh may it be ae  in the presence of all His people.
15 af  Precious in the sight of the  Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.
16O  Lord
Or because
surely I am ah  Your servant,
I am Your servant, the ai  son of Your handmaid,
You have aj  loosed my bonds.
17To You I shall offer ak  a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And al  call upon the name of the  Lord.
18I shall am  pay my vows to the  Lord,
Oh may it be in the presence of all His people,
19In the an  courts of the  Lord’s house,
In the midst of you, O ao  Jerusalem.
Or Hallelujah!
Heb  Yah
the  Lord!
