Psalms 37

Security of Those Who Trust in the  Lord, and Insecurity of the Wicked.

A Psalm of David.

1 a  Do not fret because of evildoers,
Be not b  envious toward wrongdoers.
2For they will c  wither quickly like the grass
And d  fade like the green herb.
3 e  Trust in the  Lord and do good;
f  Dwell in the land and
Or feed securely or feed on His faithfulness
,
h  cultivate faithfulness.
4 i  Delight yourself in the  Lord;
And He will j  give you the desires of your heart.
5 k  Commit your way to the  Lord,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
6He will bring forth l  your righteousness as the light
And your judgment m  as the noonday.

7
Or Be still
Rest in the  Lord and o  wait
Or longingly
patiently for Him;
q  Do not fret because of him who r  prospers in his way,
Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
8Cease from anger and s  forsake wrath;
Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.
9For t  evildoers will be cut off,
But those who wait for the  Lord, they will u  inherit the land.
10Yet v  a little while and the wicked man will be no more;
And you will look carefully for w  his place and he will not be there.
11But x  the humble will inherit the land
And will delight themselves in y  abundant prosperity.

12The wicked z  plots against the righteous
And aa  gnashes at him with his teeth.
13The Lord ab  laughs at him,
For He sees ac  his day is coming.
14The wicked have drawn the sword and ad  bent their bow
To cast down the ae  afflicted and the needy,
To af  slay those who are upright in conduct.
15Their sword will enter their own heart,
And their ag  bows will be broken.

16 ah  Better is the little of the righteous
Than the abundance of many wicked.
17For the ai  arms of the wicked will be broken,
But the  Lord aj  sustains the righteous.
18The  Lord ak  knows the days of the
Lit complete; or perfect
blameless,
And their am  inheritance will be forever.
19They will not be ashamed in the time of evil,
And an  in the days of famine they will have abundance.
20But the ao  wicked will perish;
And the enemies of the  Lord will be like the
I.e. flowers
glory of the pastures,
They vanishaq  like smoke they vanish away.
21The wicked borrows and does not pay back,
But the righteous ar  is gracious and gives.
22For as  those blessed by Him will at  inherit the land,
But those au  cursed by Him will be cut off.

23 av  The steps of a man are established by the  Lord,
And He aw  delights in his way.
24When ax  he falls, he will not be hurled headlong,
Because ay  the  Lord is the One
Or who sustains him with His hand
who holds his hand.
25I have been young and now I am old,
Yet ba  I have not seen the righteous forsaken
Or bb  his
Lit seed
descendants begging bread.
26All day long bd  he is gracious and lends,
And be  his
Lit seed
descendants are a blessing.

27 bg  Depart from evil and do good,
Or And dwell forever
So you will abide bi  forever.
28For the  Lord bj  loves
Lit judgment
justice
And bl  does not forsake His godly ones;
They are bm  preserved forever,
But the
Lit seed
,
bo  descendants of the wicked will be cut off.
29The righteous will bp  inherit the land
And bq  dwell in it forever.
30The mouth of the righteous br  utters wisdom,
And his tongue bs  speaks justice.
31The bt  law of his God is in his heart;
His bu  steps do not slip.
32The bv  wicked spies upon the righteous
And bw  seeks to kill him.
33The  Lord will bx  not leave him in his hand
Or by  let him be condemned when he is judged.
34 bz  Wait for the  Lord and keep His way,
And He will exalt you to inherit the land;
When the ca  wicked are cut off, you will see it.

35I have cb  seen a wicked, violent man
Spreading himself like a cc  luxuriant
Lit native; Heb obscure
tree in its native soil.
36Then
Ancient versions read I passed by
he passed away, and lo, he cf  was no more;
I sought for him, but he could not be found.
37Mark the
Lit complete; or perfect
,
ch  blameless man, and behold the ci  upright;
For the man of peace will have a
Lit an end
,
ck  posterity.
38But transgressors will be altogether cl  destroyed;
The
Lit end
posterity of the wicked will be cn  cut off.
39But the co  salvation of the righteous is from the  Lord;
He is their strength cp  in time of trouble.
40 cq  The  Lord helps them and delivers them;
He cr  delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
Because they cs  take refuge in Him.
