Psalms 50

God the Judge of the Righteous and the Wicked.

A Psalm of
1 Chr 15:17; 2 Chr 29:30
Asaph.

1 b  The Mighty One, God, the  Lord, has spoken,
And summoned the earth c  from the rising of the sun to its setting.
2Out of Zion d  the perfection of beauty,
God e  has shone forth.
3May our God f  come and not keep silence;
g  Fire devours before Him,
And it is very h  tempestuous around Him.
4He i  summons the heavens above,
And the earth, to judge His people:
5Gather My j  godly ones to Me,
Those who have made a k  covenant with Me by l  sacrifice.”
6And the m  heavens declare His righteousness,
For n  God Himself is judge.

7 p  Hear, O My people, and I will speak;
O Israel, I will testify
Or to
against you;
I am God r  your God.
8“I do s  not reprove you for your sacrifices,
And your burnt offerings are continually before Me.
9I shall take no t  young bull out of your house
Nor male goats out of your folds.
10“For u  every beast of the forest is Mine,
The cattle on a thousand hills.
11I know every v  bird of the mountains,
And everything that moves in the field is
Or in My mind; lit with Me
Mine.
12If I were hungry I would not tell you,
For the x  world is Mine, and
Lit its fullness
all it contains.
13Shall I eat the flesh of
Lit strong ones
,
aa  bulls
Or drink the blood of male goats?
14Offer to God ab  a sacrifice of thanksgiving
And ac  pay your vows to the Most High;
15 ad  Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I shall ae  rescue you, and you will af  honor Me.”

16But to the wicked God says,
What right have you to tell of My statutes
And to take ag  My covenant in your mouth?
17“For you ah  hate discipline,
And you ai  cast My words behind you.
18When you see a thief, you
Some ancient versions read run together
,
ak  are pleased with him,
And
Lit your part is with
you am  associate with adulterers.
19“You
Lit send
,
ao  let your mouth loose in evil
And your ap  tongue frames deceit.
20You sit and aq  speak against your brother;
You slander your own mother’s son.
21These things you have done and ar  I kept silence;
You thought that I was just like you;
I will as  reprove you and state the case in order before your eyes.

22Now consider this, you who at  forget God,
Or I will au  tear you in pieces, and there will be none to deliver.
23“He who av  offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me;
And to him who
Lit sets
,
ax  orders his way aright
I shall ay  show the salvation of God.”
