A Contrite Sinner’s Prayer for Pardon.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David, when

b Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the greatness of c Your compassion d blot out my transgressions.
e Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And f cleanse me from my sin.
Or I myself know
I h know my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
i Against You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is j evil in Your sight,
So that k You
Or may be in the right
are justified
Many mss read in Your words
when You speak
Lit pure
blameless when You judge.

Behold, I was o brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
Behold, You desire p truth in the
Or inward parts
innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will r make me know wisdom.
Or May You purify...that I may be clean
Purify me t with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Or May You wash
Wash me, and I shall be v whiter than snow.
Or May You make
Make me to hear x joy and gladness,
Let the y bones which You have broken rejoice.
z Hide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities.

10  aa Create
Lit for
in me a ac clean heart, O God,
And renew
Or an upright
a ae steadfast spirit within me.
11  af Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your ag Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the ah joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a ai willing spirit.
13  Then I will aj teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will
Or turn back
be al converted to You.

14 Deliver me from am bloodguiltiness, O God an the God of my salvation;
Then my ao tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord
Or may You open
aq open my lips,
That my mouth may ar declare Your praise.
16 For You as do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a at broken spirit;
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

18  au By Your favor do good to Zion;
Or May You build
aw Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You will delight in
Or sacrifices of righteousness

In az burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
