The  Lord Implored to Defend the Psalmist against the Wicked.

I.e. Dithyrambic rhythm; or wild passionate song
Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the  Lord
Or concerning the words of
concerning Cush, a Benjamite.

1 O  Lord my God, c  in You I have taken refuge;
Save me from all those who pursue me, and d  deliver me,
2Or he will tear
Or me
my soul f  like a lion,
Or Rending it in pieces, while
Dragging me away, while there is none to deliver.

3O  Lord my God, if I have done this,
If there is h  injustice in my hands,
4If I have i  rewarded evil to
Lit him who was at peace with me
my friend,
Or have k  plundered
Or my adversary without cause
him who without cause was my adversary,
5Let the enemy pursue
Or me
my soul and overtake
Or me
And let him trample my life down to the ground
And lay my glory in the dust.

6 p  Arise, O  Lord, in Your anger;
q  Lift up Yourself against r  the rage of my adversaries,
And s  arouse Yourself
One ancient version reads O my God
for me; You have appointed judgment.
7Let the assembly of the u  peoples encompass You,
And over
Lit it
them return on high.
8The  Lord w  judges the peoples;
Lit Judge
y  Vindicate me, O  Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
9O let z  the evil of the wicked come to an end, but aa  establish the righteous;
For the righteous God ab  tries the hearts and
Lit kidneys, figurative for inner man
10My ad  shield is
Lit upon
with God,
Who af  saves the upright in heart.
11God is a ag  righteous judge,
And a God who has ah  indignation every day.

Lit he
a man aj  does not repent, He will ak  sharpen His sword;
He has al  bent His bow and
Lit fixed it
made it ready.
13He has also prepared
Or His deadly weapons
for Himself deadly weapons;
He makes His ao  arrows fiery shafts.
14Behold, he travails with wickedness,
And he ap  conceives mischief and brings forth falsehood.
15He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has aq  fallen into the hole which he made.
16His ar  mischief will return upon his own head,
And his as  violence will descend upon
I.e. the crown of his own head
his own pate.

17I will give thanks to the  Lord au  according to His righteousness
And will av  sing praise to the name of the  Lord Most High.
