Psalms 71

Prayer of an Old Man for Deliverance.

1 a  In You, O  Lord, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be ashamed.
2 b  In Your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
c  Incline Your ear to me and save me.
3 d  Be to me a rock of e  habitation to which I may continually come;
You have given f  commandment to save me,
For You are g  my
Or crag
rock and my fortress.
4 i  Rescue me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the
Lit palm
grasp of the wrongdoer and ruthless man,
5For You are my k  hope;
O Lord
Heb YHWH, usually rendered  Lord
 God, You are my m  confidence from my youth.
Lit Upon You I have been supported
By You I have been o  sustained from my birth;
You are He who p  took me from my mother’s womb;
My q  praise is continually
Lit in
of You.

7I have become a s  marvel to many,
For You are t  my strong refuge.
8My u  mouth is filled with Your praise
And with v  Your glory all day long.
9Do not cast me off in the w  time of old age;
Do not forsake me when my strength fails.
10For my enemies have spoken
Lit with reference to
against me;
And those who y  watch for my
Lit soul
life aa  have consulted together,
11Saying ab  God has forsaken him;
Pursue and seize him, for there is ac  no one to deliver.”

12O God ad  do not be far from me;
O my God ae  hasten to my help!
13Let those who are adversaries of my soul be af  ashamed and consumed;
Let them be ag  covered with reproach and dishonor, who ah  seek
Lit my injury
to injure me.
14But as for me, I will aj  hope continually,
And will
Lit add upon all Your praise
al  praise You yet more and more.
15My am  mouth shall tell of Your righteousness
And of an  Your salvation all day long;
For I ao  do not know the
Lit numbers
sum of them.
16I will come aq  with the mighty deeds of the Lord
Heb YHWH, usually rendered  Lord
I will as  make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.

17O God, You at  have taught me from my youth,
And I still au  declare Your wondrous deeds.
18And even when I am av  old and gray, O God, do not forsake me,
Until I aw  declare Your
Lit arm
strength to this generation,
Your power to all who are to come.
Or And
For Your az  righteousness, O God, reaches to the
Lit height
You who have bb  done great things;
O God bc  who is like You?
20You who have bd  shown
Another reading is us
me many troubles and distresses
Will bf  revive
Another reading is us
me again,
And will bring
Another reading is us
me up again bi  from the depths of the earth.
21May You increase my bj  greatness
And turn to bk  comfort me.

22I will also praise You with
Lit an instrument of a harp
bm  a harp,
Even Your
Or faithfulness
truth, O my God;
To You I will sing praises with the bo  lyre,
O bp  Holy One of Israel.
23My lips will bq  shout for joy when I sing praises to You;
And my br  soul, which You have redeemed.
24My bs  tongue also will utter Your righteousness all day long;
For they are bt  ashamed, for they are humiliated who seek
Or to injure me
my hurt.
