Psalms 72

The Reign of the Righteous King.

A Psalm of Solomon.

Give the king a Your judgments, O God,
And b Your righteousness to the king’s son.
Or He will judge
Many of the pronouns in this Psalm may be rendered He since the typical reference is to the Messiah
he e judge Your people with righteousness
Or Your humble
g Your afflicted with justice.
Or The mountains will bring
Let the mountains bring
Or prosperity
j peace to the people,
And the hills, in righteousness.
Or He will vindicate
May he l vindicate the
Or humble
afflicted of the people,
Save the children of the needy
And crush the oppressor.

Or They will fear
Let them fear You o while the sun endures,
Lit before the moon
as long as the moon, throughout all generations.
Or He will come down
May he come down r like rain upon the mown grass,
Like s showers that water the earth.
In his days
Or the righteous will flourish
may the u righteous flourish,
And v abundance of peace till the moon is no more.

May he also rule w from sea to sea
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
Or The nomads...will bow
Let y the nomads of the desert z bow before him,
And his enemies aa lick the dust.
Or The kings...will bring
Let the kings of ac Tarshish and of the
Or coastlands
ae islands bring presents;
The kings of af Sheba and ag Seba ah offer
Or tribute
Or All kings will bow down
And let all ak kings bow down before him,
All al nations serve him.

12 For he will am deliver the needy when he cries for help,
Or humble
afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
13 He will have ao compassion on the poor and needy,
And the
Lit souls
lives of the needy he will save.
14 He will
Lit redeem
ar rescue their
Lit soul
life from oppression and violence,
And their blood will be at precious in his sight;
15 So may he live, and may the au gold of Sheba be given to him;
And let
Lit him
them pray for him continually;
Lit him
them bless him all day long.

16 May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains;
Its fruit will wave like the cedars of ax Lebanon;
And may those from the city flourish like ay vegetation of the earth.
17 May his az name endure forever;
May his name
Or sprout forth
Lit before the sun
bc as long as the sun shines;
And let men bd bless themselves by him;
be Let all nations call him blessed.

18  bf Blessed be the  Lord God, the God of Israel,
Who alone bg works wonders.
19 And blessed be His bh glorious name forever;
And may the whole bi earth be filled with His glory.
