The End of the Wicked Contrasted with That of the Righteous.
A Psalm of Asaph.1 Surely God is a good to Israel,
To those who are b pure in heart!
2But as for me, c my feet came close to stumbling,
My steps ▼
▼ Lit were caused to sliphad almost slipped.
3For I was e envious of the ▼
▼ Or boastersarrogant
As I saw the g prosperity of the wicked.
4For there are no pains in their death,
And their ▼
▼ Or bellybody is fat.
5They are i not ▼
▼ Lit in the trouble of menin trouble as other ▼
▼ Or mortalsmen,
Nor are they l plagued ▼
▼ Lit withlike mankind.
6Therefore pride is n their necklace;
The o garment of violence covers them.
7Their eye ▼
▼ Lit goes forthbulges from q fatness;
The imaginations of their heart ▼
▼ Lit overflowrun riot.
8They s mock and ▼
▼ Or they speak in wickedness; From on high they speak of oppressionwickedly speak of oppression;
They u speak from on high.
9They have v set their mouth ▼
▼ Or inagainst the heavens,
And their tongue ▼
▼ Lit walksparades through the earth.
▼ Or Hishis people return to this place,
And waters of z abundance are ▼
▼ Lit drained outdrunk by them.
11They say ab “How does God know?
And is there knowledge ▼
▼ Lit inwith the Most High?”
12Behold ad these are the wicked;
And always ae at ease, they have increased in wealth.
13Surely af in vain I have ▼
▼ Or cleansed my heartkept my heart pure
And ah washed my hands in innocence;
14For I have been stricken ai all day long
▼ Lit my chastening, ak chastened every morning.
15If I had said, “I will speak thus,”
Behold, I would have betrayed the al generation of Your children.
16When I am pondered to understand this,
It was ▼
▼ Lit labor, troubletroublesome in my sight
17Until I came into the ▼
▼ Lit sanctuaries, ap sanctuary of God;
Then I perceived their aq end.
18Surely You set them in ar slippery places;
You cast them down to ▼
▼ Lit ruins, at destruction.
19How they are ▼
▼ Lit become a desolation, av destroyed in a moment!
They are utterly swept away by aw sudden terrors!
20Like a ax dream when one awakes,
O Lord, when ay aroused, You will az despise their ▼
▼ Or imageform.
21When my bb heart was embittered
And I was bc pierced ▼
▼ Lit in my kidneyswithin,
22Then I was be senseless and ignorant;
I was like ▼
▼ Or an animala bg beast ▼
▼ Lit with Youbefore You.
23Nevertheless bi I am continually with You;
You have taken hold of my right hand.
24With Your counsel You will bj guide me,
And afterward bk receive me ▼
▼ Or with honorto glory.
25 bm Whom have I in heaven but You?
▼ Or withbesides You, I desire nothing on earth.
26My bo flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the ▼
▼ Lit rockstrength of my heart and my bq portion forever.
27For, behold br those who are far from You will bs perish;
You have ▼
▼ Or silenceddestroyed all those who ▼
▼ Lit go to a whoring from, bv are unfaithful to You.
28But as for me, bw the nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord ▼
▼ Heb YHWH, usually rendered LordGod my by refuge,
That I may bz tell of all Your works.
