Revelation of John 11

The Two Witnesses

1Then there was given me a
Lit reed
b  measuring rod like a staff;
Lit saying
and d  someone said, “Get up and measure the
Or sanctuary
temple of God and the altar, and those who worship in it.
Lit throw out
Leave out the g  court which is outside the
Or sanctuary
temple and do not measure it, for i  it has been given to the nations; and they will j  tread under foot k  the holy city for l  forty-two months.
3And I will grant authority to my two m  witnesses, and they will prophesy for n  twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in o  sackcloth.” 4These are the p  two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. 5And if anyone wants to harm them, q  fire flows out of their mouth and devours their enemies; so if anyone wants to harm them, r  he must be killed in this way. 6These have the power to s  shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during t  the days of their prophesying; and they have power over the waters to u  turn them into blood, and v  to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.

7When they have finished their testimony w  the beast that comes up out of the x  abyss will y  make war with them, and overcome them and kill them. 8And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the z  great city which
Lit spiritually
mystically is called ab  Sodom and ac  Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.
9Those from ad  the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will look at their dead
Lit body
bodies for three and a half days, and
Lit do not permit
ag  will not permit their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.
10And ah  those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and celebrate; and they will ai  send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented aj  those who dwell on the earth.

11But after the three and a half days ak  the breath of life from God came into them, and they stood on their feet; and great fear fell upon those who were watching them. 12And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, al  Come up here.” Then they am  went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them. 13And in that hour there was a great an  earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell;
Lit names of people, seven thousand
seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and ap  gave glory to the aq  God of heaven.

14The second ar  woe is past; behold, the third woe is coming quickly.

The Seventh Trumpet— Christ’s Reign Foreseen

15Then the as  seventh angel sounded; and there were at  loud voices in heaven, saying,

au  The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of av  His
I.e. Messiah
Christ; and ax  He will reign forever and ever.”
16And the twenty-four elders, who ay  sit on their thrones before God az  fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17saying,

We give You thanks ba  O Lord God, the Almighty, who are and who were, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to bb  reign.
18“And bc  the nations were enraged, and bd  Your wrath came, and be  the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to
Lit give the reward to
reward Your bg  bond-servants the prophets and the
Or holy ones
saints and those who fear Your name, bi  the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

19And bj  the
Or sanctuary
temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and bl  the ark of His covenant appeared in His
Or sanctuary
temple, and there were flashes of bn  lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a bo  great
Lit hail
