Revelation of John 21

The New Heaven and Earth

1Then I saw a  a new heaven and a new earth; for b  the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2And I saw c  the holy city d  new Jerusalem e  coming down out of heaven from God f  made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold g  the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will
Or tabernacle
i  dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them
One early ms reads, and be their God
4and He will k  wipe away every tear from their eyes; and l  there will no longer be any death; m  there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; n  the first things have passed away.”

5And o  He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am p  making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for q  these words are faithful and true.” 6Then He said to me,
Lit They are
s  It is done. I am the t  Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. u  I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the v  water of life without cost.
7 w  He who overcomes will inherit these things, and x  I will be his God and he will be My son. 8 y  But for the cowardly and
Or untrustworthy
unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in aa  the lake that burns with fire and
I.e. burning sulphur
brimstone, which is the ac  second death.”

9 ad  Then one of the seven angels who had the ae  seven bowls
Lit who were full
full of the ag  seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying ah  Come here, I will show you the ai  bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

The New Jerusalem

10And aj  he carried me away
Or in spirit
al  in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me am  the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,
11having an  the glory of God. Her
Lit luminary
brilliance was like a very costly stone, as a ap  stone of aq  crystal-clear jasper.
Lit having
It had a great and high wall
Lit having
at  with twelve au  gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel.
13There were three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west. 14And the wall of the city had av  twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the aw  twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15The one who spoke with me had a
Lit measure, a gold reed
gold measuring ay  rod to measure the city, and its az  gates and its wall.
16The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the
Lit reed
Lit twelve thousand stadia; a stadion was approx 600 ft
fifteen hundred miles; its length and width and height are equal.
17And he measured its wall
Lit one hundred forty-four cubits
seventy-two yards, according to bd  human
Lit measure
measurements, which are also bf  angelic measurements.
18The material of the wall was bg  jasper; and the city was bh  pure gold, like
Lit pure
clear bj  glass.
19 bk  The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was bl  jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth bm  emerald; 20the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth bn  sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. 21And the twelve bo  gates were twelve bp  pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was bq  pure gold, like transparent br  glass.

22I saw bs  no
Or sanctuary
temple in it, for the bu  Lord God the Almighty and the bv  Lamb are its
Or sanctuary
23And the city bx  has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for by  the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the bz  Lamb. 24 ca  The nations will walk by its light, and the cb  kings of the earth
Lit bring
will bring their glory into it.
25In the daytime (for cd  there will be no night there) ce  its gates cf  will never be closed; 26and cg  they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27and ch  nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those
Lit who have been
whose names are cj  written in the Lamb’s book of life.
