Revelation of John 6
The First Seal— Rider on White Horse1Then I saw when the a Lamb broke one of the b seven seals, and I heard one of the c four living creatures saying as with a d voice of thunder, “Come ▼.” 2I looked, and behold, a f white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and g a crown was given to him, and he went out h conquering and to conquer.
The Second Seal— War3When He broke the second seal, I heard the i second living creature saying, “Come ▼.” 4And another k a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to l take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.
The Third Seal— Famine5When He broke the third seal, I heard the m third living creature saying, “Come ▼.” I looked, and behold, a o black horse; and he who sat on it had a p pair of scales in his hand. 6And I heard something like a voice in the center of the q four living creatures saying, “A ▼
▼ Gr choenix; i.e. a dry measure almost equal to a qtquart of wheat for a ▼
▼ The denarius was equivalent to a day’s wagesdenarius, and three ▼
▼ Gr choenix; i.e. a dry measure almost equal to a qtquarts of barley for a ▼
▼ The denarius was equivalent to a day’s wagesdenarius; and v do not damage the oil and the wine.”
The Fourth Seal— Death7When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the w fourth living creature saying, “Come ▼.” 8I looked, and behold, an ▼
▼ Or sickly pale, z ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name aa Death; and ab Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth ac to kill with sword and with famine and with ▼
▼ Or deathpestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.
The Fifth Seal— Martyrs9When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw ae underneath the af altar the ag souls of those who had been slain ah because of the word of God, and because of the ai testimony which they had maintained; 10and they cried out with a loud voice, saying aj “How long, O ▼
▼ Or Master, al Lord am holy and true ▼
▼ Lit do You not judge and avengewill You refrain from ao judging and avenging our blood on ap those who dwell on the earth?” 11And aq there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should ar rest for a little while longer, as until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be at completed also.
The Sixth Seal— Terror12I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great au earthquake; and the av sun became black as aw sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; 13and ax the stars of the sky fell to the earth, ay as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. 14 az The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and ba every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15Then bb the kings of the earth and the great men and the ▼
▼ I.e. chiliarchs, in command of one thousand troopscommanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; 16and they bd said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the ▼
▼ Lit facepresence of Him bf who sits on the throne, and from the bg wrath of the Lamb; 17for bh the great day of their wrath has come, and bi who is able to stand?”
