(NIV)
God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways.
(ESV)
And
God saw the
earth, and
behold, it was
corrupt,
for all flesh had
corrupted their
way on the
earth.
(NIV)
For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the
Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the
Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.’
(ESV)
For I have
chosen him,
that he may
command his
children and his
household after him to
keep the
way of the
Lord by
doing righteousness and
justice, so that the
Lord may
bring to
Abraham what he has
promised him.”
(NIV)
One day the elder daughter said to the younger, ‘Our father is old, and there is no man round here to give us children – as is the custom all over the earth.
(ESV)
And the
firstborn said to the
younger, “Our
father is
old, and there is not a
man on
earth to
come in to us after the
manner of all the
earth.
(NIV)
Rachel said to her father, ‘Don’t be angry, my lord, that I cannot stand up in your presence; I’m having my period.’ So he searched but could not find the household gods.
(ESV)
And she
said to her
father, “Let
not my
lord be
angry that I
cannot rise before you, for the
way of
women is upon me.” So he
searched but did
not find the
household gods.
(NIV)
Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave.
(ESV)
and you shall
warn them about the
statutes and the
laws, and make them
know the
way in which they must
walk and
what they must
do.
(NIV)
They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”
(ESV)
They have
turned aside quickly out
of the
way that I
commanded them. They have
made for themselves a
golden calf and have
worshiped it and
sacrificed to it and
said, ‘
These are your
gods, O
Israel, who brought you
up out of the
land of
Egypt!’”
(NIV)
If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favour with you. Remember that this nation is your people.’
(ESV)
Now therefore,
if I have
found favor in your
sight,
please show me now your
ways, that I may
know you in
order to find favor in your
sight.
Consider too
that this nation is your
people.”
(NIV)
The angel of the
Lord asked him, ‘Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me.
(ESV)
And the
angel of the
Lord said to him, “
Why have you
struck your
donkey these three times?
Behold, I have
come out to
oppose you
because your
way is
perverse before me.
(NIV)
Walk in obedience to all that the
Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
(ESV)
You shall
walk in
all the
way that the
Lord your
God has
commanded you, that you may
live, and
that it may
go well with you, and that you may live
long in the
land that you shall
possess.
(NIV)
Observe the commands of the
Lord your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him.
(ESV)
So you shall
keep the
commandments of the
Lord your
God by
walking in his
ways and by
fearing him.
(NIV)
Then the
Lord told me, ‘Go down from here at once, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have become corrupt. They have turned away quickly from what I commanded them and have made an idol for themselves.’
(ESV)
Then the
Lord said to me, ‘
Arise,
go down
quickly from
here, for your
people whom you have
brought from
Egypt have acted
corruptly. They have
turned aside quickly out of the
way that I
commanded them; they have
made themselves a
metal image.’
(NIV)
When I looked, I saw that you had sinned against the
Lord your God; you had made for yourselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the
Lord had commanded you.
(ESV)
And I
looked, and
behold, you had
sinned against the
Lord your
God. You had
made yourselves a
golden calf.
You had
turned aside
quickly from the
way that the
Lord had
commanded you.
(NIV)
And now, Israel, what does the
Lord your God ask of you but to fear the
Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the
Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
(ESV)
“And
now,
Israel,
what does the
Lord your
God require of you,
but to
fear the
Lord your
God,
to
walk in
all his
ways,
to
love him, to
serve the
Lord your
God with
all your
heart and with
all your
soul,
(NIV)
If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow – to love the
Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him and to hold fast to him –
(ESV)
For if you will be
careful to do all this commandment that I
command you to
do,
loving the
Lord your
God,
walking in
all his
ways, and holding
fast to him,
(NIV)
the curse if you disobey the commands of the
Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.
(ESV)
and the
curse,
if you do
not obey the
commandments of the
Lord your
God, but
turn aside from the
way that I am
commanding you
today,
to
go after other gods that you have
not known.
(NIV)
That prophet or dreamer must be put to death for inciting rebellion against the
Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn you from the way the
Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.
(ESV)
But that
prophet or that
dreamer of
dreams shall be
put to death,
because he has
taught rebellion against the
Lord your
God, who
brought you out of the
land of
Egypt and
redeemed you out of the
house of
slavery, to make you
leave the
way in
which the
Lord your
God commanded you to
walk.
So you shall
purge the
evil from your
midst.
(NIV)
because you carefully follow all these laws I command you today – to love the
Lord your God and to walk always in obedience to him – then you are to set aside three more cities.
(ESV)
provided you are
careful to
keep all this commandment,
which I
command you
today, by
loving the
Lord your
God and by
walking ever in his
ways— then you shall
add three other cities to these three,
(NIV)
You have declared this day that the
Lord is your God and that you will walk in obedience to him, that you will keep his decrees, commands and laws – that you will listen to him.
(ESV)
You have
declared today that the
Lord is your
God, and that you will
walk in his
ways, and
keep his
statutes and his
commandments and his
rules, and will
obey his
voice.
(NIV)
The
Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the
Lord your God and walk in obedience to him.
(ESV)
The
Lord will
establish you as a
people holy to himself,
as he has
sworn to you,
if you
keep the
commandments of the
Lord your
God and
walk in his
ways.
(NIV)
At midday you will grope about like a blind person in the dark. You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no one to rescue you.
(ESV)
and you shall
grope at
noonday,
as the
blind grope in
darkness, and you shall
not prosper in your
ways. And you shall be
only oppressed and
robbed continually, and there shall be no
one to
help you.
(NIV)
For I command you today to love the
Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the
Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
(ESV)
If you obey the
commandments of the
Lord your God that I
command you
today,
by
loving the
Lord your
God, by
walking in his
ways, and by
keeping his
commandments and his
statutes and his
rules then you shall
live and
multiply, and the
Lord your
God will
bless you in the
land that you are
entering to take
possession of it.
(NIV)
For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the
Lord and arouse his anger by what your hands have made.’
(ESV)
For I
know that
after my
death you will
surely act corruptly and
turn aside from the
way that I have
commanded you. And in the
days to
come evil will
befall you,
because you will
do what is
evil in the
sight of the
Lord,
provoking him to
anger through the
work of your
hands.”
(NIV)
He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
upright and just is he.
(ESV)
“The
Rock,
his
work is
perfect,
for
all his
ways are
justice.
A
God of
faithfulness and
without iniquity,
just and
upright is he.
(NIV)
But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the
Lord gave you: to love the
Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.’
(ESV)
Only be
very careful to
observe the
commandment and the
law that
Moses the
servant of the
Lord commanded you, to
love the
Lord your
God, and to
walk in all his
ways and to
keep his
commandments and to
cling to him and to
serve him with all your
heart and with all your
soul.”
(NIV)
Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves to other gods and worshipped them. They quickly turned from the ways of their ancestors, who had been obedient to the
Lord’s commands.
(ESV)
Yet they did
not listen to their
judges,
for they
whored after other gods and
bowed down to them. They
soon turned aside from the
way in
which their
fathers had
walked, who had
obeyed the
commandments of the
Lord, and they
did not do
so.
(NIV)
But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their ancestors, following other gods and serving and worshipping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.
(ESV)
But whenever the
judge died, they
turned back and were
more corrupt than their
fathers,
going after other gods,
serving them and
bowing down to them. They did
not drop any of their
practices or their
stubborn ways.
(NIV)
I will use them to test Israel and see whether they will keep the way of the
Lord and walk in it as their ancestors did.’
(ESV)
in
order to
test Israel by them, whether they will
take care to
walk in the
way of the
Lord as their
fathers did,
or not.”
(NIV)
But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.
(ESV)
Yet his
sons did
not walk in his
ways but
turned aside after gain.
They
took bribes and
perverted justice.
(NIV)
They said to him, ‘You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.’
(ESV)
and
said to him, “
Behold, you are
old and your
sons do
not walk in your
ways.
Now appoint for us a
king to
judge us like
all the
nations.”
(NIV)
As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the
Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.
(ESV)
Moreover, as for
me, far be
it from me that I should
sin against the
Lord by
ceasing to
pray for you, and I will
instruct you in the
good and the
right way.
(NIV)
In everything he did he had great success, because the
Lord was with him.
(ESV)
And
David had
success in
all his
undertakings,
for the
Lord was
with him.
(NIV)
For I have kept the ways of the
Lord;
I am not guilty of turning from my God.
(ESV)
For I have
kept the
ways of the
Lord and have
not wickedly departed from my
God.
(NIV)
‘As for God, his way is perfect:
the
Lord’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him.
(ESV)
This
God— his
way is
perfect;
the
word of the
Lord proves true;
he is a
shield for
all those who
take refuge in him.
(NIV)
It is God who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure.
(ESV)
This
God is my
strong refuge and has
made my
way blameless.
(NIV)
and observe what the
Lord your God requires: walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go
(ESV)
and
keep the
charge of the
Lord your
God,
walking in his
ways and
keeping his
statutes, his
commandments, his
rules, and his
testimonies, as it is
written in the
Law of
Moses,
that you may
prosper in all that you
do and wherever you
turn,
(NIV)
and that the
Lord may keep his promise to me: “If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.”
(ESV)
that the
Lord may
establish his
word that he
spoke concerning me,
saying,
‘
If your
sons pay
close attention to their
way,
to
walk before me in
faithfulness with all their
heart and with all their
soul,
you shall not
lack a
man on the
throne of
Israel.’
(NIV)
And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.’
(ESV)
And
if you will
walk in my
ways,
keeping my
statutes and my
commandments,
as your
father David walked, then I will
lengthen your
days.”
(NIV)
‘Now
Lord, the God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said, “You shall never fail to have a successor to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants are careful in all they do to walk before me faithfully as you have done.”
(ESV)
Now therefore, O
Lord,
God of
Israel,
keep for your
servant David my
father what you have
promised him,
saying,
‘You shall not
lack a
man to
sit before me on the
throne of
Israel, if only your
sons pay
close attention to their
way, to
walk before me as you have
walked before me.’
(NIV)
then hear from heaven and act. Judge between your servants, condemning the guilty by bringing down on their heads what they have done, and vindicating the innocent by treating them in accordance with their innocence.
(ESV)
then
hear in
heaven and
act and
judge your
servants,
condemning the
guilty by
bringing his
conduct on his own
head, and
vindicating the
righteous by
rewarding him according to his
righteousness.
(NIV)
then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land you gave your people for an inheritance.
(ESV)
then
hear in
heaven and
forgive the
sin of your
servants, your
people Israel, when you
teach them the
good way in which they should
walk, and
grant rain upon your
land, which you have
given to your
people as an
inheritance.
(NIV)
May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in obedience to him and keep the commands, decrees and laws he gave our ancestors.
(ESV)
that he may
incline our
hearts to him, to
walk in all his
ways and to
keep his
commandments, his
statutes, and his
rules, which he
commanded our
fathers.
(NIV)
I will do this because they have forsaken me and worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Molek the god of the Ammonites, and have not walked in obedience to me, nor done what is right in my eyes, nor kept my decrees and laws as David, Solomon’s father, did.
(ESV)
because they have
forsaken me and
worshiped Ashtoreth the
goddess of the
Sidonians,
Chemosh the
god of
Moab, and
Milcom the
god of the
Ammonites, and they have
not walked in my
ways,
doing what is
right in my
sight and keeping my
statutes and my
rules, as
David his
father did.
(NIV)
If you do whatever I command you and walk in obedience to me and do what is right in my eyes by obeying my decrees and commands, as David my servant did, I will be with you. I will build you a dynasty as enduring as the one I built for David and will give Israel to you.
(ESV)
And
if you will
listen to
all that I
command you, and will
walk in my
ways, and
do what is
right in my
eyes by
keeping my
statutes and my
commandments, as
David my
servant did,
I will be with you and will
build you a
sure house, as I
built for
David, and I will
give Israel to you.
(NIV)
He did evil in the eyes of the
Lord, following the ways of his father and committing the same sin his father had caused Israel to commit.
(ESV)
He
did what was
evil in the
sight of the
Lord and
walked in the
way of his
father, and in his
sin which he made
Israel to
sin.
(NIV)
He did evil in the eyes of the
Lord, following the ways of Jeroboam and committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.
(ESV)
He
did what was
evil in the
sight of the
Lord and
walked in the
way of
Jeroboam and in his
sin which he made
Israel to
sin.
(NIV)
‘I lifted you up from the dust and appointed you ruler over my people Israel, but you followed the ways of Jeroboam and caused my people Israel to sin and to arouse my anger by their sins.
(ESV)
“
Since I
exalted you
out of the
dust and
made you
leader over my
people Israel, and you have
walked in the
way of
Jeroboam and have made my
people Israel to
sin, provoking me to
anger with their
sins,
(NIV)
because of the sins he had committed, doing evil in the eyes of the
Lord and following the ways of Jeroboam and committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.
(ESV)
because of his
sins that he
committed,
doing evil in the
sight of the
Lord,
walking in the
way of
Jeroboam, and for his
sin which he
committed, making
Israel to
sin.
(NIV)
He followed completely the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat, committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit, so that they aroused the anger of the
Lord, the God of Israel, by their worthless idols.
(ESV)
For he
walked in all the
way of
Jeroboam the
son of
Nebat, and in the
sins that he made
Israel to
sin,
provoking the
Lord, the
God of
Israel, to anger by their
idols.
(NIV)
In everything he followed the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the
Lord. The high places, however, were not removed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.
(ESV)
He
walked in
all the
way of
Asa his
father. He did
not turn aside from it,
doing what was
right in the
sight of the
Lord.
Yet the
high places were
not taken
away, and the
people still sacrificed and
made offerings on the
high places.
(NIV)
He did evil in the eyes of the
Lord, because he followed the ways of his father and mother and of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.
(ESV)
He
did what was
evil in the
sight of the
Lord and
walked in the
way of his
father and in the
way of his
mother and in the
way of
Jeroboam the
son of
Nebat,
who made
Israel to
sin.
(NIV)
He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the
Lord.
(ESV)
And he
walked in the
way of the
kings of
Israel,
as the
house of
Ahab had
done,
for the
daughter of
Ahab was his
wife. And he
did what was
evil in the
sight of the
Lord.
(NIV)
He followed the ways of the house of Ahab and did evil in the eyes of the
Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for he was related by marriage to Ahab’s family.
(ESV)
He also
walked in the
way of the
house of
Ahab and
did what was
evil in the
sight of the
Lord, as the
house of
Ahab had done,
for he was
son-in-law to the
house of
Ahab.
(NIV)
He followed the ways of the kings of Israel and even sacrificed his son in the fire, engaging in the detestable practices of the nations the
Lord had driven out before the Israelites.
(ESV)
but he
walked in the
way of the
kings of
Israel.
He
even burned his
son as an offering, according to the
despicable practices of the
nations whom the
Lord drove
out before the
people of
Israel.
(NIV)
The
Lord warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and seers: ‘Turn from your evil ways. Observe my commands and decrees, in accordance with the entire Law that I commanded your ancestors to obey and that I delivered to you through my servants the prophets.’
(ESV)
Yet the
Lord warned Israel and
Judah by every prophet and
every seer,
saying,
“
Turn from your
evil ways and
keep my
commandments and my
statutes, in accordance with all the
Law that I
commanded your
fathers, and that I
sent to you
by my
servants the
prophets.”
(NIV)
He followed completely the ways of his father, worshipped the idols his father had worshipped, and bowing down to them.
(ESV)
He
walked in
all the
way in which his
father walked and
served the
idols that his
father served and
worshiped them.
(NIV)
He forsook the
Lord, the God of his ancestors, and did not walk in obedience to him.
(ESV)
He
abandoned the
Lord, the
God of his
fathers, and did
not walk in the
way of the
Lord.
(NIV)
He did what was right in the eyes of the
Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.
(ESV)
And he
did what was
right in the
eyes of the
Lord and
walked in
all the
way of
David his
father,
and he did
not turn aside to the
right or to the
left.
(NIV)
‘Now,
Lord, the God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said, “You shall never fail to have a successor to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants are careful in all they do to walk before me according to my law, as you have done.”
(ESV)
Now therefore, O
Lord,
God of
Israel,
keep for your
servant David my
father what you have
promised him,
saying,
‘You shall
not lack a
man to
sit before me on the
throne of
Israel,
if only your
sons pay
close attention to their
way, to
walk in my
law as you have
walked before me.’
(NIV)
then hear from heaven and act. Judge between your servants, condemning the guilty and bringing down on their heads what they have done, and vindicating the innocent by treating them in accordance with their innocence.
(ESV)
then
hear from heaven and
act and
judge your
servants,
repaying the
guilty by
bringing his
conduct on his own
head, and
vindicating the
righteous by
rewarding him according to his
righteousness.
(NIV)
then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land that you gave your people for an inheritance.
(ESV)
then
hear in
heaven and
forgive the
sin of your
servants, your
people Israel,
when you
teach them the
good way in
which they should
walk, and
grant rain upon your
land,
which you have
given to your
people as an
inheritance.
