Not only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.

wise,

Preacher also taught the
people knowledge,
weighing and
studying and
arranging many proverbs with great care.

The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.

Preacher sought to
find words of
delight, and
uprightly he
wrote words of
truth.

A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to debate with him. Some of them asked, ‘What is this babbler trying to say?’ Others remarked, ‘He seems to be advocating foreign gods.’ They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.
