The words of the Teacher, son of David, king of Jerusalem:

Eccl 1:2

‘Meaningless! Meaningless!’
says the Teacher.
‘Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.’

Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher,
vanity of vanities! All is vanity.

Eccl 1:12

I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.

I the Preacher have been king over Israel in Jerusalem.

Eccl 7:27

Eccl 12:8

Eccl 12:9

Not only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.

Besides being wise the Preacher also taught the people knowledge, weighing and studying and arranging many proverbs with great care.

Eccl 12:10

The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.

The Preacher sought to find words of delight, and uprightly he wrote words of truth.
