Now

(NASB2020)
These are
the records of the
generations of
Jacob.
Joseph,
when he was bseventeen years of
age, was
pasturing the
flock with his
brothers, while he was
still a
youth, along with
cthe
sons of
Bilhah and the
sons of
Zilpah, his
father’s wives. And
Joseph brought back a
dbad report about them to their
father.
(GerSch)
Dies ist die Familiengeschichte
Jakobs:
Joseph war siebzehn Jahre alt, als
er mit seinen
Brüdern das
Vieh hütete, und er war als
Knabe bei den
Söhnen Bilhas und
Silpas, der
Weiber seines
(NASB2020)
Now
Israel loved Joseph more than all his
other sons,
because he was
ethe
son of his
old age; and he
made him a
▼
,
gmulticolored tunic.
(GerSch)
Israel aber
hatte Joseph lieber als alle seine
Söhne, weil er ihn in seinem
Alter bekommen hatte;
und er
machte ihm einen langen
Rock.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
And his
brothers saw that their
father loved him
more than all his
brothers; and
so they
hhated him and
could not
speak to him
▼on
friendly terms.
(GerSch)
Als nun seine
Brüder sahen, daß ihr
Vater ihn lieber
hatte als alle seine
Brüder, haßten sie ihn und mochten ihn
nicht mehr grüßen.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Then
Joseph ▼
,
khad a
dream, and when he
told it to his
brothers, they
hated him
even more.
(GerSch)
Joseph aber
hatte einen
Traum und
verkündigte ihn seinen
Brüdern; da haßten sie ihn
noch mehr.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
He
said to them, “
Please listen to
this dream which I have
▼had;
(GerSch)
Er
sprach nämlich zu ihnen:
Hört doch, was für einen
Traum ich
gehabt:
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
for
behold, we were
binding sheaves in the
field, and
behold, my
sheaf stood up and
also remained standing; and
behold, your
sheaves gathered around and
mbowed down to my
sheaf.”
(GerSch)
nieder!
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Then his
brothers said to him, “
nAre you
actually going to
reign over us?
Or are you
really going to
rule over us?” So they
hated him
even more for his
dreams and for his
words.
(GerSch)
Da
sprachen seine
Brüder zu ihm: Willst du etwa gar unser
König werden? Willst du über uns
herrschen? Darum haßten sie ihn
noch mehr wegen seiner
Träume und wegen seiner
Reden.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Then he
▼had yet another dream, and
informed his
brothers of it, and
said, “
Behold, I have
▼had yet another dream; and
behold, the
sun and the
moon, and
eleven stars were
bowing down to me.”
(GerSch)
Er
hatte aber noch
einen andern Traum, den
erzählte er seinen
Brüdern auch und
sprach: Seht, ich habe wieder
geträumt, und siehe, die
Sonne und der
Mond und elf
Sterne verneigten
sich vor mir!
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
He also
told it to his
father as well as to his
brothers; and his
father rebuked him and
said to him, “
What is
this dream that you have
▼had? Am I and your
mother and
ryour
brothers actually going to
come to
bow down to the
ground before you?”
(GerSch)
Erde verneigen?
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
And
shis
brothers were jealous of him, but his
father tkept the
matter in mind.
(GerSch)
Und seine
Brüder beneideten ihn;
sein Vater aber behielt
das Wort im Gedächtnis.
(OHB)

(NASB2020)
Then his
brothers went to
pasture their
father’s flock in
Shechem.
(GerSch)
Als aber seine
Brüder nach
Sichem gegangen waren, um ihres
Vaters Schafe zu weiden,
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
And
Israel said to
Joseph, “Are your
brothers not
pasturing the flock in
vShechem?
Come, and I will
send you to them.” And he
said to him, “
▼I will
go.”
(GerSch)
sprach Israel zu
Joseph:
Weiden nicht deine
Brüder zu
Sichem?
Komm, ich will dich zu ihnen
senden! Er aber
sprach: Siehe, hier bin ich!
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Then he
said to him, “
Go now and
see about the
welfare of your
brothers and the
welfare of the
flock, and
bring word back to me.” So he
sent him from the
Valley of
xHebron, and he
came to
Shechem.
(GerSch)
Also
sandte er ihn aus dem
Tale Hebron, und er wanderte nach
Sichem.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
A
man found him, and
behold, he was
wandering in the
field; and the
man asked him, “
▼What are you
looking for?”
(GerSch)
Da
fand ihn
ein Mann, als er
irreging auf dem Gefilde; der
fragte ihn und
sprach: Was suchst
du?
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
He
said, “I am
looking for my
brothers;
please tell me
where they are
pasturing the flock.”
(GerSch)
Er antwortete: Ich
suche meine
Brüder;
sage mir doch,
wo sie
weiden!
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Then the
man said, “They have
moved from
here; for I
heard them say, ‘Let’s
go to
zDothan.’” So
Joseph went after his
brothers and
found them at
Dothan.
(GerSch)
Der Mann antwortete:
Sie sind von hier fortgezogen; denn ich
hörte sie
sagen:
Kommt, laßt uns gen Dotan
ziehen! Da
ging Joseph seinen
Brüdern nach und
fand sie zu Dotan.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
▼When they
saw him from a
distance, and
before he
came closer to them, they
abplotted against him to
put him
to death.
(GerSch)
Als sie ihn nun von
ferne sahen, ehe
er in ihre Nähe
kam, beschlossen sie, ihn meuchlings umzubringen.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
They
said to
one another, “

(GerSch)
Und sie
sprachen zueinander: Seht, da
kommt der Träumer her!
(OHB)

(NASB2020)
Now then,
come and let’s
kill him, and
throw him into
one of the
pits; and
adwe will
say, ‘A
vicious animal devoured him.’ Then we will
see what will
become of his
dreams!”
(GerSch)
Jetzt wollen
wir ihn doch
töten und in
eine Zisterne
werfen und
sagen, ein
böses Tier habe ihn
gefressen; so wollen wir
sehen, was aus seinen
Träumen wird.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
But
aeReuben heard this and
rescued him out of their
hands ▼by
saying, “Let’s not
▼take his
life.”
(GerSch)
Als
Ruben solches
hörte, rettete
er ihn aus ihren
Händen, indem er
sprach: Wir wollen ihn
nicht ums
Leben bringen!
(OHB)

(NASB2020)
Then
Reuben said to them, “
Shed no blood.
Throw him into
this pit that is in the
wilderness, but do not
lay a
hand on him” -
-so that later he might
rescue him out of their
hands, to
return him to his
father.
(GerSch)
Und weiter
sprach Ruben zu
ihnen: Vergießet kein
Blut!
Hand an ihn! Er wollte ihn aber
aus ihrer
Hand erretten und ihn
wieder zu seinem
Vater bringen.
(OHB)

(NASB2020)
So it
came about,
when Joseph ▼reached his
brothers, that they
stripped Joseph of his
tunic, the
▼multicolored tunic that was on him;
(GerSch)
Da nun
Joseph zu
seinen Brüdern kam,
zogen sie ihm
den Rock aus, den langen

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
and they
took him and
threw him into the
pit. Now the
pit was
empty,
without any
water in it.
(GerSch)
Darnach
Wasser drin.
(OHB)

(NASB2020)
Then they
sat down to
eat ▼a
meal. But as they
raised their
eyes and
looked,
behold, a
caravan of
akIshmaelites was
coming from
Gilead, with their
camels carrying allabdanum resin,
ambalsam, and
▼myrrh,
▼on their
way to
bring them down to
Egypt.
(GerSch)
Darauf setzten sie
sich nieder, um zu
essen. Als sie aber ihre
Augen aufhoben und sich umsahen,
siehe, da
kam eine Karawane von Ismaelitern vom Gebirge
Gilead daher, deren
Kamele trugen Tragakanth,
Balsam und Ladanum, und
zogen hinab nach
Ägypten.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
And
Judah said to his
brothers, “
What profit is it for us to
kill our
brother and
apcover up his

(GerSch)
Da

(NASB2020)
aqCome, and let’s
sell him to the
Ishmaelites and not
lay our
hands on him, for he is our
brother, our
own flesh.” And his
brothers listened to him.
(GerSch)

(NASB2020)
Then
some arMidianite traders passed by, so they
pulled him out and
lifted Joseph out of the
pit, and
assold ▼him to the
Ishmaelites for
▼twenty shekels of
silver. So
avthey
brought Joseph into
Egypt.
(GerSch)
Als nun die midianitischen
Kaufleute vorbeikamen,
zogen sie Joseph aus der Zisterne
herauf und
verkauften ihn den Ismaelitern um
zwanzig Silberlinge; die
brachten Joseph nach
Ägypten.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Now
Reuben returned to the
pit, and
behold,
Joseph was not in the
pit; so he
awtore his
garments.
(GerSch)
Als nun
Ruben zur Zisterne zurückkam, siehe,
da war kein
Joseph mehr in der Zisterne! Da zerriß
er sein
Kleid,
(OHB)

(NASB2020)
He
returned to his
brothers and
said, “
axThe
boy is not
there; as for me,
where am I to
go?”
(GerSch)
kehrte zu seinen
Brüdern zurück und
sprach: Der
Knabe ist verschwunden!
Wo soll ich
hin?
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
So
aythey
took Joseph’s tunic, and
slaughtered a
male goat, and
dipped the
tunic in the
blood;
(GerSch)
Sie aber
nahmen Josephs Rock und
schlachteten einen
Ziegenbock,
tauchten den

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
and they
sent the

brought it to their

said, “We
found this;
please ▼examine it to see whether it is your

(GerSch)
schickten den langen

sieh doch, ob es deines

(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Then he
▼examined it and
said, “
It is my

bcA

bdJoseph has
surely been

(GerSch)
Und er
erkannte ihn und
sprach: Es ist meines

Joseph ist gewiß

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
So
Jacob betore his
clothes, and
put on a

waist, and
mourned for his

(GerSch)
Und
Jakob zerriß seine

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
Then
all his
sons and
all his
daughters got up to
comfort him, but he
refused to be
comforted. And he
said, “
Surely I will

Sheol in
mourning for my
son.” So his
father wept for him.
(GerSch)

Meanwhile, the

She

Now

But

(GerSch)
Aber

(NASB2020)
Then
Judah said to

raise up a

(GerSch)
Da
sprach Juda zu

(OHB)
BHS has been faithful to the Leningrad Codex where there might be a question of the validity of the form and we keep the same form as BHS.

(NASB2020)
Now
Onan knew that the

(GerSch)
Da aber

(GerSch)
Es

(NASB2020)
Then
Judah said to his
daughter-in-law Tamar, “
bzRemain a
widow in your
father’s house until my

I am afraid that he
too may

Tamar went and
lived in her

(GerSch)
Da
sprach Juda zu Tamar, seines

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
Now
▼▼Lit

(GerSch)
Als nun viele

(OHB)
(NASB2020)
And
Tamar was

(GerSch)
Da
ward der Tamar angesagt: Siehe, dein

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
So she

sat in the

(GerSch)
Da legte
sie die

sich, die
sie trug, bedeckte
sich mit einem Schleier und verhüllte
sich und
setzte sich ans

sah, daß

(OHB)
(NASB2020)
When

(GerSch)
Als nun

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
So he

said, “
▼Here now, let me

said, “
What will you

(GerSch)
Und
er machte

sprach: Laß mich

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
He
said, therefore, “I will

said, “Will you

(GerSch)

(NASB2020)
He
said, “
What pledge shall I
give you?” And she
said, “
cnYour
seal and your
cord, and your
staff that is in your
hand.” So he
gave them to her and
had relations with her, and she
conceived by him.
(GerSch)
Er sprach:
Was willst du, daß ich dir zum

Sie antwortete: Deinen

Händen hast! Da
gab er es ihr und ging zu ihr, und sie ward von ihm
schwanger.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Then she
got up and
departed, and
▼▼Lit
removed from herself removed her

put on her
widow’s garments.
(GerSch)

(NASB2020)
When
Judah sent the
▼▼Lit
kid of goats by the hand of young goat by his
friend the
Adullamite, to
receive the
pledge from the
woman’s hand, he did not
find her.
(GerSch)
Juda aber
sandte den
Ziegenbock durch seinen Freund, den Adullamiter,
um das

fand sie nicht.
(OHB)

(NASB2020)
He
asked the
people of her
place,
saying, “
Where is the
temple prostitute who was by the
road at
Enaim?” But they
said, “There has
been no temple prostitute here.”
(GerSch)
Da fragte er die
Leute an jenem

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
So he
returned to
Judah, and
said, “I did not
find her; and
furthermore, the
people of the
place said, ‘There has
been no temple prostitute here.’”
(GerSch)
Und er kam
wieder zu
Juda und
sprach: Ich habe sie
nicht gefunden; dazu
sagen die

(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Then
Judah said, “Let her
▼keep them,
otherwise we will
become a
laughingstock.
▼After all, I
sent this young goat, but you did not
find her.”
(GerSch)
Juda sprach: So

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
Now it was about
three months later that
Judah was
▼informed, “Your

prostituted herself, and
behold, she is
also pregnant by
prostitution.” Then
Judah said, “
Bring her
out and

(GerSch)

(NASB2020)
It was while she was being
brought out that she
sent word to her
father-in-law,
saying, “I am
pregnant by the
man to
whom these things belong.” She also
said, “
cvPlease examine and see,
whose signet ring and

these?”
(GerSch)
Und als man
sie hinausführte, schickte sie zu ihrem

sprach:

sprach: Untersuche doch, wem gehört dieser

(OHB)

▼▼BHS has been faithful to the Leningrad Codex where there might be a question of the validity of the form and we keep the same form as BHS.
(NASB2020)
And
Judah recognized them, and
said, “
cxShe
is more righteous than I,
since cyI did not
give her to my
son Shelah.” And he did not
▼have relations with her
again.
(GerSch)
Juda sah genauer zu und
sprach: Sie

(NASB2020)
It
came about at the

(GerSch)
Und als sie

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
Moreover, it
took place while she was
giving birth, that one
baby put out a
hand, and the
midwife took and
tied a
scarlet thread on his
hand,
saying, “
This one came out first.”
(GerSch)
Und als sie
gebar, kam eine
Hand heraus; da
nahm die Hebamme einen
roten Faden und
band ihn darum und
sprach: Der

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
But it
came about as he
drew back his
hand that
behold, his
brother came out. Then she
said, “
What a
breach you have
made for yourself!” So he was
named ▼
,
dcPerez.
(GerSch)

(NASB2020)
Afterward his
brother came out who had the
scarlet thread on his
hand; and he was
named ▼▼I.e., a dawning or brightness

deZerah.
(GerSch)
Darnach kam sein

hieß ihn Serach.
(OHB)
(NASB2020)
Now
Joseph had been
taken down to
Egypt; and
Potiphar, an
Egyptian officer of
Pharaoh, the
captain of the

bought him

dgIshmaelites,
who had
taken him
down there.
(GerSch)
Joseph aber war nach
Ägypten hinabgeführt worden, und
Potiphar, ein

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
And
dhthe
Lord was with
Joseph, so he
became a

house of his
master, the
Egyptian.
(GerSch)

(NASB2020)
Now his
master djsaw that the
Lord was with him and
that the
Lord dkmade
all that he

(GerSch)
Und als sein Gebieter
sah, daß der

(NASB2020)
So
Joseph dlfound favor in his
sight and
▼became his
personal servant; and he
made him
overseer over his

▼put him in

(GerSch)
da
fand Joseph Gnade in seinen

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
It
came about that from the
time he
made him
overseer in his
house and
over all that he

Lord dpblessed the
Egyptian’s house on
account of
Joseph; so
dqthe
Lord’s blessing was upon
all that he
owned, in the
house and in the

(GerSch)
Und von der
Zeit an, da er
ihn über sein
Haus und über alle seine Güter gesetzt
hatte,
segnete der

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
So he
left ▼Joseph in
charge of
everything that he owned; and with him
there he did not

anything except the

Now
Joseph was
dvhandsome in
form and

(GerSch)
Da überließ er alles, was er hatte,

Joseph aber war von schöner

(OHB)

(NASB2020)
And it
came about after these events dwthat his

(GerSch)
Es begab

But

(GerSch)
Er
aber weigerte

es ist niemand
