1 Chronicles 6:31-33
31These are the men awhom David put in charge of the service of song in the house of the Lord bafter the ark rested there. 32They ministered with song before the tabernacle of the tent of meeting until Solomon built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, and they performed their service according to their order. 33These are the men who served and their sons. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman the singer the son of Joel, son of cSamuel,1 Chronicles 9:33
33Now these, the dsingers, the heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, were in the chambers of the temple free from other service, for they were on duty day and night.1 Chronicles 16:37-42
Worship Before the Ark
37So David left Asaph and his brothers there ebefore the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister regularly before the ark fas each day required, 38and also gObed-edom and his ▼▼Hebrew their
sixty-eight brothers, while iObed-edom, the son of Jeduthun, and jHosah were to be gatekeepers. 39And he left kZadok the priest and his brothers the priests before the tabernacle of the Lord lin the high place that was at Gibeon 40to offer burnt offerings to the Lord mon the altar of burnt offering nregularly morning and evening, to do all that is written in the Law of the Lord that he commanded Israel. 41With them were oHeman and Jeduthun pand the rest of those chosen and qexpressly named to give thanks to the Lord, rfor his steadfast love endures forever. 42Heman and Jeduthun had trumpets and cymbals for the music and instruments sfor sacred song. David Organizes the Musicians
1David and the chiefs of the service also set apart for the service the sons of tAsaph, and of uHeman, and of vJeduthun, who wprophesied with lyres, with xharps, and with cymbals. Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun, aawho prophesied with the lyre in thanksgiving and praise to the Lord. 4Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth. 5All these were the sons of Heman abthe king’s seer, according to the promise of God to exalt him, for God had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. 6They were all under the direction of their father in the music in the house of the Lord with cymbals, acharps, and lyres for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the order of the king. 7The number of them along with their brothers, who were trained in singing to the Lord, all who were skillful, was ad288. 2 Chronicles 29:25-28
25 aeAnd he stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, harps, and lyres, afaccording to the commandment of David and of Gad agthe king’s seer and of ahNathan the prophet, for the commandment was from the Lord through his prophets. 26The Levites stood with aithe instruments of David, ajand the priests with the trumpets. 27Then Hezekiah commanded that the burnt offering be offered on the altar. And when the burnt offering began, akthe song to the Lord began also, and the trumpets, accompanied by the instruments of David king of Israel. 28The whole assembly worshiped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded. All this continued until the burnt offering was finished.2 Chronicles 31:2
2And Hezekiah appointed althe divisions of the priests and of the Levites, division by division, each according to his service, the priests and the Levites, amfor burnt offerings and peace offerings, to minister in the gates of the camp of the Lord and to give thanks and praise.Ezra 3:10-11
10And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments came forward with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, anaccording to the directions of David king of Israel. 11And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord,ao“For he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever toward Israel.”
And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.
