1 Corinthians 2:1-5

Proclaiming Christ Crucified

1And I, when I came to you, brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters
bdid not come proclaiming to you cthe testimony
Some manuscripts mystery (or secret)
of God with lofty speech or wisdom.
2For I decided to know nothing among you except eJesus Christ and him crucified. 3And fI was with you gin weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of hthe Spirit and of power, 5so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men
The Greek word anthropoi can refer to both men and women
but jin the power of God.

1 Thessalonians 3:1-10

1Therefore when we could bear it no longer, we were willing kto be left behind at Athens alone, 2and we lsent Timothy, mour brother and God’s coworker
Some manuscripts servant
in the gospel of Christ, to establish and exhort you in your faith,
3that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that owe are destined for this. 4For when we were with you, we kept telling you beforehand that we were to suffer affliction, pjust as it has come to pass, and just as you know. 5For this reason, qwhen I could bear it no longer, rI sent to learn about your faith, sfor fear that somehow tthe tempter had tempted you and uour labor would be in vain.

Timothy’s Encouraging Report

6But vnow that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us the good news of wyour faith and love and reported xthat you always remember us kindly and ylong to see us, as we long to see you 7for this reason, brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters
in all our distress and affliction aawe have been comforted about you through your faith.
8For now we live, if you abare standing fast in the Lord. 9For acwhat thanksgiving can we return to God for you, for all the joy that we feel for your sake before our God, 10as we pray most earnestly adnight and day aethat we may see you face to face and afsupply what is lacking in your faith?
