1 Corinthians 4:9-13

9For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, alike men sentenced to death, because we bhave become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. 10 cWe are fools for Christ’s sake, but dyou are wise in Christ. eWe are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. 11To the present hour fwe hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and gbuffeted and hhomeless, 12and we ilabor, working with our own hands. jWhen reviled, we bless; kwhen persecuted, we endure; 13when slandered, we entreat. lWe have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, mthe refuse of all things.

2 Corinthians 4:7-11

Treasure in Jars of Clay

7But we have this treasure in njars of clay, oto show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 8We are pafflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9persecuted, but qnot forsaken; rstruck down, but not destroyed; 10 salways carrying in the body the death of Jesus, tso that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. 11For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesussake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

2 Corinthians 11:23-30

23Are they uservants of Christ? vI am a better one—I am talking like a madmanwith far greater labors, wfar more imprisonments, xwith countless beatings, and yoften near death. 24Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the zforty lashes less one. 25Three times I was aabeaten with rods. abOnce I was stoned. Three times I acwas shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea; 26on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, addanger from my own people, aedanger from Gentiles, afdanger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers; 27 agin toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, ahin hunger and thirst, often without food,
Or  often in fasting
in cold and exposure.
28And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for ajall the churches. 29 akWho is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not indignant?

30 alIf I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.

Testing of Your Faith

2 amCount it all joy, my brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters. The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated “brothers”) refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to men or to both men and women who are siblings (brothers and sisters) in God’s family, the church; also verses 16, 19
