1 Kings 13:1

A Man of God Confronts Jeroboam

1And behold, aa man of God came out of Judah by the word of the Lord to Bethel. Jeroboam was standing by the altar bto make offerings.

1 Kings 14:7-16

7Go, tell Jeroboam, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: cBecause I exalted you from among the people and made you leader over my people Israel 8and dtore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you, and yet you have not been elike my servant David, who kept my commandments and followed me with all his heart, doing only that which was right in my eyes, 9but you have done evil above all who were before you and have gone and fmade for yourself other gods and gmetal images, provoking me to anger, and hhave cast me behind your back, 10therefore behold, I will bring harm upon the house of Jeroboam and iwill cut off from Jeroboam every male, jboth bond and free in Israel, and kwill burn up the house of Jeroboam, as a man burns up dung until it is all gone. 11 lAnyone belonging to Jeroboam who dies in the city the dogs shall eat, and anyone who dies in the open country the birds of the heavens shall eat, for the Lord has spoken it.”’ 12Arise therefore, go to your house. mWhen your feet enter the city, the child shall die. 13And all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him nthere is found something pleasing to the Lord, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam. 14 oMoreover, the Lord will raise up for himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam today. And henceforth, 15the Lord will strike Israel as a reed is shaken in the water, and proot up Israel out of qthis good land that he gave to their fathers and scatter them rbeyond the Euphrates,
Hebrew  the River
because they have made their tAsherim, provoking the Lord to anger.
16And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and made Israel to sin.”

1 Kings 17:1

Elijah Predicts a Drought

1Now Elijah the Tishbite, of uTishbe
Septuagint; Hebrew  of the settlers
in Gilead, said to Ahab, w“As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, xbefore whom I stand, ythere shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”

1 Kings 18:21-40

21And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long zwill you go limping between two different opinions? aaIf the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word. 22Then Elijah said to the people, ab“I, even I only, am left a prophet of the Lord, but Baal’s prophets are ac450 men. 23Let two bulls be given to us, and let them choose one bull for themselves and cut it in pieces and lay it on the wood, but put no fire to it. And I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood and put no fire to it. 24And you call upon the name of your god, and I will call upon the name of the Lord, and the God who adanswers by fire, he is God.” And all the people answered, “It is well spoken.” 25Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first, for you are many, and call upon the name of your god, but put no fire to it.” 26And they took the bull that was given them, and they prepared it and called upon the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no voice, and no one answered. And they limped around the altar that they had made. 27And at noon Elijah mocked them, saying, “Cry aloud, for he is a god. Either he is musing, or he is relieving himself, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.” 28And they cried aloud and aecut themselves after their custom with swords and lances, until the blood gushed out upon them. 29And as midday passed, they raved on until the time of afthe offering of the oblation, but there was no voice. No one answered; no one paid attention.

30Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been agthrown down. 31Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, ahIsrael shall be your name,” 32and with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord. And he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two seahs
A  seah was about 7 quarts or 7.3 liters
of seed.
33 ajAnd he put the wood in order and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. And he said, “Fill four jars with water and akpour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.” 34And he said, “Do it a second time.” And they did it a second time. And he said, “Do it a third time.” And they did it a third time. 35And the water ran around the altar and filled the trench also with water.

36And at the time of althe offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O Lord, amGod of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that anyou are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that aoI have done all these things at your word. 37Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.” 38 apThen the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 39And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, aq“The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God.” 40And Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape.” And they seized them. And Elijah brought them down to arthe brook Kishon and asslaughtered them there.

1 Kings 19:10

10He said, “I have been very atjealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, authrown down your altars, and avkilled your prophets with the sword, awand I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.”

2 Kings 17:13

13Yet the Lord axwarned Israel and Judah ayby every prophet azand every seer, saying, baTurn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”

Nehemiah 9:30
