Rehoboam Reigns in Judah

21 ^aNow Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, ^bthe city that the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. ^cHis mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite. 22 ^dAnd Judah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and they ^eprovoked him to jealousy with their sins that they committed, more than all that their fathers had done. 23 For they also built for themselves ^fhigh places ^gand pillars and ^hAsherim on every high hill and ⁱunder every green tree, 24 and there were also ^jmale cult prostitutes in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations that the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.

25 ^kIn the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem. 26 He took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house. ^lHe took away everything. He also took away all the shields of gold ^mthat Solomon had made,
