in Gilead, said to Ahab, c“As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, dbefore whom I stand, ethere shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”

1 Kings 18:36-40

36And at the time of fthe offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O Lord, gGod of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that hyou are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that iI have done all these things at your word. 37Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.” 38 jThen the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 39And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, k“The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God.” 40And Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape.” And they seized them. And Elijah brought them down to lthe brook Kishon and mslaughtered them there.

2 Kings 2:11-14

11And as they still went on and talked, behold, nchariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12And Elisha saw it and he cried, “My father, my father! oThe chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more.

Then he took hold of his own clothes pand tore them in two pieces.
13And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, qthe water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over.

10And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say uthat first Elijah must come?” 11He answered, Elijah does come, and vhe will restore all things. 12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but wdid to him whatever they pleased. xSo also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” 13 yThen the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.
