Elijah Predicts a Drought

1Now Elijah the Tishbite, of aTishbe
Septuagint; Hebrew  of the settlers
in Gilead, said to Ahab, c“As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, dbefore whom I stand, ethere shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”
2And the word of the Lord came to him: 3Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 4You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” 5So he went and did according to the word of the Lord. He went and lived by the brook Cherith that is east of the Jordan. 6And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. 7And after a while the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

7There will be bare places by the Nile,
on the brink of the Nile,
and all that is sown by the Nile will be parched,
will be driven away, and will be no more.
8The nfishermen will mourn and lament,
all who cast a hook in the Nile;
and they will languish
who spread nets on the water.

and the weavers of white cotton.
10Those who are the ppillars of the land will be crushed,
and all who qwork for pay will be grieved.

vFrom generation to generation it shall lie waste;
none shall pass through it forever and ever.

2 zWhy, when I came, was there no man;
why, when I called, was there no one to answer?
aaIs my hand shortened, that it cannot redeem?
Or have I no power to deliver?

adI make the rivers a desert;

and die of thirst.
