Israel’s Irresponsible Leaders

9 eAll you beasts of the field, come to devour
all you beasts in the forest.
10 fHis watchmen are blind;
they are all without knowledge;
they are all silent gdogs;
they cannot bark,
dreaming, lying down,
loving to slumber.
11 hThe dogs have a mighty appetite;
they never have enough.
But ithey are shepherds who have no understanding;
they have all turned to their own way,
jeach to his own gain, one and all.
12 kCome,” they say, “let me get wine;
let us fill ourselves with strong drink;
land tomorrow will be like this day,
great beyond measure.”

Ezekiel 34:2-6

2 mSon of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: nAh, shepherds of Israel owho have been feeding yourselves! pShould not shepherds feed the sheep? 3 qYou eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, ryou slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. 4 sThe weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, tthe injured you have not bound up, uthe strayed you have not brought back, vthe lost you have not sought, and with force and wharshness you have ruled them. 5 xSo they were scattered, because there was no shepherd, and ythey became food for all the wild beasts. My sheep were scattered; 6they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, zwith none to search or seek for them.
