1 Kings 19:19-21

The Call of Elisha

19So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast ahis cloak upon him. 20And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, b“Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” 21And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh cwith the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.

Matthew 19:22-27

22 dWhen the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

23And Jesus said to his disciples, Truly, I say to you, eonly with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 fAgain I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter gthe kingdom of God.” 25When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 26But Jesus hlooked at them and said, iWith man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 27Then Peter said in reply, “See, jwe have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?”

Luke 9:59-62

59To another he said, Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60And Jesus

said to him, Leave mthe dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and nproclaim the kingdom of God.”
61Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, obut let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62Jesus said to him, p“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
