Ahab Defeats Ben-hadad

13And behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel and said, “Thus says the Lord, Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, aI will give it into your hand this day, band you shall know that I am the Lord.” 14And Ahab said, “By whom?” He said, “Thus says the Lord, By the servants of the governors of the districts.” Then he said, “Who shall begin the battle?” He answered, “You.” 15Then he mustered the servants of the governors of the districts, and they were 232. And after them he mustered all the people of Israel, seven thousand.

16And they went out at noon, while Ben-hadad cwas drinking himself drunk in the booths, he and the thirty-two kings who helped him. 17The servants of the governors of the districts went out first. And Ben-hadad sent out scouts, and they reported to him, “Men are coming out from Samaria.” 18He said, “If they have come out for peace, take them alive. Or if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

19So these went out of the city, the servants of the governors of the districts and the army that followed them. 20And each struck down his man. The Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them, but Ben-hadad king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen. 21And the king of Israel went out and struck the horses and chariots, and struck the Syrians with a great blow.

2 Chronicles 13:5-16

5Ought you not to know that the Lord God of Israel jgave the kingship over Israel forever to David and his sons by ka covenant of salt? 6Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up land rebelled against his lord, 7and certain mworthless scoundrels gathered about him and defied Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was nyoung and irresolute
Hebrew soft of heart
and could not withstand them.

8“And now you think to withstand the kingdom of the Lord in the hand of the sons of David, because you are a great multitude and have with you pthe golden calves that Jeroboam made you for gods. 9 qHave you not driven out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves like the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes rfor ordination
Hebrew to fill his hand
with a young bull or seven rams becomes a priest of what are tnot gods.
10But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him. We have priests ministering to the Lord who are sons of Aaron, and Levites for their service. 11They offer to the Lord uevery morning and every evening burnt offerings and incense of sweet spices, set out vthe showbread on the table of pure gold, wand care for the golden lampstand that its lamps may xburn every evening. For we ykeep the charge of the Lord our God, but you have forsaken him. 12Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests zwith their battle trumpets to sound the call to battle against you. O sons of Israel, aado not fight against the Lord, the God of your fathers, for you cannot succeed.”

13Jeroboam had sent aban ambush around to come upon them from behind. Thus his troops
Hebrew they
were in front of Judah, and the ambush was behind them.
14And when Judah looked, behold, the battle was in front of and behind them. adAnd they cried to the Lord, and the priests aeblew the trumpets. 15Then the men of Judah raised the battle shout. And when the men of Judah shouted, afGod defeated Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. 16The men of Israel fled before Judah, agand God gave them into their hand.
